I have put on the Sony device, partly because the general ratings are for been very good, although it in the price range between 100 and 200 EUR are quite different providers that offer similar functions. Touch surface was important to me, because I had promised them more interaction than with 72 keys, take away the only place.
Since I currently (still) much more PDF documents possess as ePubs (especially scientific material) was especially important to me, the acceptable viewing PDFs, knowing full well that the device can indeed "only" show in black and white.
Positive:
+ Good handling at low weight
Legible especially in daylight +
+ Pleasant touchscreen surface, the pin-use does not enforce
+ Extremely long standby time
+ Sufficient memory for an abundance of books in parallel
+ Acceptable final price
In fairness, - and I think that's what matters - an ebook reader has to propose outstanding primarily in the category of books features. Use a screen saver I find just as superfluous as the question of whether a reader is to play MP3s. For me, an eBook reader like a book, and this issue towards "book feeling" must primarily feel once as a basic task as close as possible.
Negatives:
- Format and resolution for the representation of a page DINA4 fact too small (=> leads orientation change and the profile of strange transition effects)
- Zoom behavior not really continuously (multiple zoom levels and a dynamic setting help For dynamic zooming scrolling and scrolling works but not sufficient.)
- Note functions and responsiveness to pen use very sluggish (the typical Anmarkern, marking or drawing is cumbersome and often impractical when zooming)
- Device Battery exclusively and can not be disabled via USB connection available (use during charging impossible)
- No UMTS / WLAN access from the device
- With increasing darkness, the weakness of the e-ink technology is fast
- No I know programming API
Conclusion:
I quite understand users who are thrilled and take on holiday their ePubs on the device without having to recharge again. Practicable the unit fits well in the pocket, is pleasantly light when reading and also the slight image construction delays disturb hardly. The picture quality is out very convincing (although not as perfect as with real paper).
A book-feeling does not correspond to it anyway. For painting or in writing in the book, it is hard to use, who only reads novels, the should not interfere with. But the main criticism is that too little display and so then also linked to low resolution. If graphics are integrated, making the leaves and zooming do not really mind. In a normal book you would also have access to left and right sides at the same time, the backwards and forward in the book are designed cumbersome.
Personally, I need the posh of Internet and Co. in an eBook reader not - certainly not at this price, then it must just be another type of device. But one thing should be to a worthy book replacement. I find much class to it, but the small size to bother me but primary. Therefore, I can only awarded 3 points.
