Something to nice ...

Zebrahead experimented on their albums always with all kinds of style types and managed this also to deliver hits on the assembly line. In particular, on the predecessor "Phoenix", the band from California was perhaps the most versatile and sounded more mature than ever. It is precisely this colorful array of diverse elements that knew how to put an all in Abgeh- and party, but sometimes also in melancholy Träumlaune, what emphasized the zebra heads of the others felt drölfhundert Cali-punk bands and their uniqueness was constituted - and it is on "Get Nice!" Unfortunately not much left ...
Already at the very "Whoahoa" biased Opener "Blackout" one gets the impression, which then runs almost through the whole album: Zebrahead sound much braver, sweeter and more pop than anyone previously knew of them - which is not yet to be bad. When one while listening of each song but then hardly hear out differences between them and they are similar of melody, tempo and structure almost like peas in a pod, the bored on 14 songs last but duly and frosting glued nerves.
Exceptions complacent? All right: "She Do not Wanna Rock" pleasantly surprised with his hip-hop elements and the witty text is a tribute to the role models of the band. The first single "Ricky Bobby" then comes up with a rich and very electro-heavy keyboard intro before it turns into a flawless After-front-go-number. The chorus here again far too often used on the album "Whoahoa", which, however, still the least annoying. After that followed for me the highlight of the album, namely the title track, which neatly Popo occurs and is provided with a magnificent hook - very fat and live certainly a grenade!
The rest is sometimes more, sometimes less out particularly well. The bottom line, however, most of the songs sound like told the same, too sweet, too tame and contain too many "Whoahoa" choirs, suggesting the end, Zebrahead want to deal with "Get Nice!" - True to its title - enter "nice" and thus curry favor with the trend of the other, less hard pop punk bands, perhaps to sell off one or two discs more to a few teenagers. That was them but also indulged in, after all, chasing the band has always been the great and deserved breakthrough afterwards. And since my sympathy for band and album allows, and as "Get Nice!" despite all the monotony is not of inferior quality by far, stars come out in the end 4 there - even if most of the new songs should be no live Bringer ...
