My somewhat sober assessment of this CD refers not to the music of Jethro Tull, which is wonderful. Also, it is more likely to be a philosophical question whether making "Best Of" releases by bands whose songs are regularly fitted into the respective concept of the original album, sense. This should ultimately decide for themselves. But there are two types of best-of-albums. Once the fans for that also contain rarities (live versions, non-album tracks, etc.). A die-hard fan would be of course on a great deal for him perhaps unknown background information, retrospective views of the stakeholders, and the like. As is offered here by the music nothing really new, this CD is not is undoubtedly one of the fan-best ofs. The other variety is the imaginary rather for newcomers that should offer a representative cross-section of the oeuvre of the artist. To this genus is clearly one "The Very Best Of Jethro Tull". Such a plate is all the better, offer the more information on the respective albums and publications. It should simply take for granted that is specified for each song, from which album it originates. A gratifying value offer reprinted lyrics and a brief outline of the band's history. Here is a chronological list of albums to "Roots to Branches" is given (with covers and Year) after all. So far so good. That was it but also already. The liner notes by Ian Anderson, in which he stated that he had taken himself another song selection (hmm ...), are not very informative. Since it is at least not so bad that the yellow text on beige colored background is not exactly a reader-friendly. Since it (including "Aqualung", "Songs from the Woods", "Heavy Horses" and others) have made this compilation many theme songs of each album, an assignment is often easy. But not always, because explicit information on the origin are nowhere given. That the band's history nothing is said and no other really interesting information (even lyrics, etc.) are transmitted, since hardly surprised. Therefore, unfortunately, it comes down to a bit of the impression that wanted to make the record company with a somewhat carelessly together geschusterten song collection on the Fast Checkout. Although here the music, not a single failure is to complain, I'm considering such a tepid presentation but a little disappointed. But positive feature is that with a running time of 78 minutes, the technical capacity of the CD has been fully utilized.
