As early as the summer of 2011 I had the predecessor who, extensively tested Nikon P7000, but all former critics of the camera (slow menus, unreliable autofocus) had unfortunately quite. The camera was based on my claims below the line unusable, and went back by return mail. As autumn came the P7100 and was invariably reported that all childhood diseases are eliminated, I have gained the P7100 and did not regret it to this day. The build quality is outstanding and the owner of a Nikon D300s SLR for me it is the perfect complement to my equipment, if you do not want to lug the heavy 5 kilo backpack with various lenses. Since many controls and menu navigation are very similar to the Nikon DSLR cameras, the operation is a breeze and quickly goes on in the flesh. Here it is worth once again, the brand to remain faithful. The picture quality is moderate, thanks to 10-megapixel sensor and a relatively large for a compact camera perfectly and allows problems even larger prints up to 20 x 30 cm. The optical viewfinder is a big plus, even if it is only a stopgap measure for me - but just in such emergency situations, you will be glad that you have it. I was never a friend of foldable displays, but have to admit that I am delighted with the solution that Nikon installed here. Finally, the mandatory + / o / - points:
+ Excellent workmanship + Fast response times + Fixed all the shortcomings of P7000 + All the important functions of the controls can be reached directly + Great folding screen + Optical viewfinder
o No printed manual o Physical lid supplied would be desirable
- The P7100 would have liked earned as a successor to the P7000 video recordings in full HD.
Conclusion: the P7100 does not replace a Nikon DSLR with a telephoto zoom resonable. Even a Nikon D3100 with a 18-55 mm lens makes pleasing shots at a manageable cost. The P7100 is therefore the perfect second camera. Who does not have the possibility of comparison to a DSLR, will be happy with the compact anyway.
