I have bought 16 of these mats to set up my home a karate practice room. The quality of the mats is very good; the price-performance ratio is right. The unpleasant odor fades with regular airing after at least 3 days. As described, the mats do not absorb moisture, therefore suitable for basements. For The Purpose: As a longtime karate-ka I have been trained in many martial arts mats. There are mats which are about 5 times more expensive and it significantly harder. Even the more expensive mats usually have a relatively smooth surface, whereas these mats have small, barely perceptible "pimples". Both circumstances are for training, however insignificant (also barefoot). 16 m² is sufficient for a person to Kata, or two people can practice Kumite. I chose mainly for reasons of cost for these mats and can only recommend for martial arts.
