I wanted the stereo signal of the HDMI source to separate the device: stereo signal to the system, HDMI signal to the projector. This works well, as far as the quality and incredibly bad although on the output HDMI signal as well as via stereo jack. I did this on my monitor (Iiyama ProLite XB2779QS) tested, because the also features a stereo output (via jack). With the adapter, the stereo signal sounds (via HDMI and jack), as if you were playing the audio through a metal bucket. Without adapter stereo quality is just fine.
Addendum of 16/04/2015: I've now bought the following product: deleyCON HDMI Audio Extractor / Audio Splitter So it works great!
