Connection and installation:
The connection went smoothly. Connect antenna cable producing power
First connection was established via Scart cable.
After starting the Setup Wizard appears.
After the language selector is the preferred output and image resolution is set.
The device reports that an update is available, which then over the satellite link
is transferred and installed. This procedure took about 10-15 minutes, and worked smoothly.
After restarting the unit of / the satellite can be selected, and the channel search starts.
It automatically creates a list of favorites with 50 channels that can be subsequently processed yet.
After storing, the machine is ready for operation.
Picture / Sound Quality:
After installation, I have reconnected from Scart to HDMI.
The already Scart good image is the lossless HDMI port
again significantly crisper and sharper. The difference compared to my previous analogue TV is huge.
Both the 37 "1080p Toshiba TV 1080p and the Epson projector, the image is very good,
and I had no glitches or artifacts.
The sound is picked up starting with me via an optical cable to the S / PDIF
and a Logitech Z-5400 5.1 system passed. Again, no problems.
The sound is transmitted in parallel via HDMI or SCART.
Service:
The remote is well designed and easy to handle.
I use a Logitech Harmony One allrdings Universalferbedienung.
The programming of the Harmony also worked flawlessly.
The menu navigation via the OSD is clearly laid out, and everybody who has ever a
Satellite receiver has operated, should be on the menu and the program and favorites lists
quickly find their way.
PVR function:
Tested with a USB flash drive 8 GB and a 160 GB hard drive 2.5 inch.
Both formatted with FAT32. The USB port of the device delivers 500mA
which is sufficient for my hard drive.
Both media were recognized immediately and the time shift and
Recording function to function as they should.
My Conclusion:
(++) Low price, 1 year + HD and HDMI cable included
(++) Easy set-up and installation
(++) Excellent image / sound quality of SD and HD material
(+) You are looking for the optical output in vain in many more expensive devices
(+) Discreet not to large housing, LCD brightness adjustable
(+) For digital satellite very fast switching times
(+) CEC control with modern TV's remote control saves a
(+) CI slot for Sky present, but not tested
(+/-) HD content in 4: 3 format are not scaled
(+/-) Recordings of HD + channels not seekable or PC playable
This is not however the receiver but on HD +
(+/-) No echer on / off switch (standby but is very economical)
I am very satisfied with the device, and as in families and communities
still awaiting some conversions from analog to digital, which is not safe
be the last S835, I will order from Amazon.
I hope I could help some customers in their buying decision.
