My main concern was to edit NEF files (= RAW format of Nikon) and develop. that creates the program very well.
the designation of the editing functions are meaningful (unlike LR), the bed.anleitung good and understandable. so you can quickly find out which function causes what, there are also good examples.
What I liked is that DxO offers a lot of presets that can be applied directly to a photo - for example, to adjust brighter colors. you can also save your own presets and apply them to other photos.
the export of individual photos (during development) will take some time, it is because a variety of filters and treatment according to each photo be applied. all running in the background, so it does not interfere.
for each camera lens pair can download patch files and import, then known errors (vignetiierung etc.) corrected at the request automatically.
Unfortunately, the new version 9.0 of DxO Optics no longer runs under WinXP, it requires win7.
compared to LR (3.6):
DxO has no database to sort photos, manage, compare, evaluate, etc.
for it is not intended, and that's a good thing.
you can here (in DxO) under organize a filter to apply to the photos - that is, you can for example hide all JPGs and let it show only NEF files. I miss in LR.
I still find the develop well, is that you get (ie without processing) displayed a photograph the raw version if you click on it with the mouse (and holds). After releasing the DxO redisplays the changed / edited version of the image.
the pallets (zbhistogramm, geometry, exposure, and color, ...) can be in need and hide. this option does not exist in LR. which is handy if you concentrate only on a few points. the rest does not bother if it is hidden.
Disadvantages of DxO:
------------------
the program start takes about 1 min. since LR is much faster. and accordingly it will take a long time if you "organize" under a folder has selected until all the images have been scanned. sometimes affects the program quite sluggish and does not seem to respond.
Grid View is lacking, there is only the filmstrip below.
Also working with two screens is missing here and I have not found this function. you can simply detach the filmstrip via CTRL-U and so placed on the second screen (monitor).
there is no history or log of processing steps. Although you can undo the change with CTRL-Z, but you do not see what steps they were. dissolved in LR (under protocol) better.
I would advise anyone of this program compared to LR recommend - if it's all about pure image-development.
if you still looking for a tool to manage images, LR is certainly powerful.
