That's why I had the following minimum requirements (in unweighted order):
- Camera and lens compartments
- Daypack for various odds and ends
- Laptop compartment
- Options to accommodate a tripod
- Raincover
- Ideally, hand luggage Compliant
- Has to fit my height (am 203 cm tall)
- Not outwardly immediately as "Camera Backpack" recognizable (what a can possibly be a conflict with the tripod)
These criteria I'm first in the popular shops in town - driven by the naive idea: Find something determined many of which there plenty. In short, I am empty-handed back home (too small, too ugly, too impractical, too many of my criteria simply not satisfied).
So I've actually searched for days relevant sites, forums and finally Amazon. Shortlisted first came two other backpacks, which was one of the Lowepro Fastpack 350. The backpack not said to me, and I have sent him back. Why can be found in detail in my review there.
After further searching I found this Vanguard - this seemed my criteria (almost) to satisfy all, looking good too.
Fast because he approved cabin baggage dimensions exceed in size a little.
The backpack is now more than half a year in operation and I have not regretted the purchase date.
It is safe (and packed) is stable processed and well padded. Visually, it also tells me to still. In addition, it is not recognizable as a camera backpack at first glance. Who will be involved in such backpacks course realize pretty quickly what this backpack is intended. In addition, the backpack looks at my body size is not too small and sits on a good level. He also does not beat against the lumbar.
In the rear laptop compartment I get comfortable my 13 "MacBook Pro, as well as the iPad.
In camera compartment is my 70D with the lens they need. In individual subjects, which are only partially adapted to sit more lenses and a flash. Two compartments are misused: in one I have a PowerCube multiple power strip, in the other is the battery charger of the camera and my Carry Speed FS-Slim Camera Strap.
The access to the camera from the side is a little fiddly and might have turn out a little larger. However, I must also confess that I rarely take with the backpack on my photo tours and therefore rarely use the box at this point. The backpack is indeed more my travel technology backpack, which means my technical devices are herein brought to the destination and from there the camera depends always at hand on my shoulder.
When DayPack I was actually a little excited because I had read that it soon inside loses stability and the things from top to bottom through chutes (one makes the backpack completely on, it will work out off the entire front, which is why the bottom of the DayPack can not be sewn on four sides, but I suspect that Vanguard has responded to such reports and has reworked -. because on the open side is now a strong Velcro over the entire width I grab the tray often very crowded and there are not. always the easiest things in it. So far never failed me down a bit.
What backpacking really missing are smaller, separately lockable compartments, eg for extra memory cards or if you want to bring individual batteries. There are in though small mesh pockets, but these are so far that there something everything will fall out.
So far I'm backpacking whatsoever unmolested come on board an aircraft - surely also because the backpack does not exceed the massive dimensions. It fits easily in the overhead compartment of the aircraft
Conclusion: for me surely I am very satisfied with the present a good solution as before. However, the backpack has still some potential.
