I've bought more than one hundred products determined at Amazon, most computer accessories and books and have so far never seen the need to write a review. But this is now changing with this Digittrade RFID hard drive - because it has changed my life (please do not delete love Amazon people, I explain why the same!).
I run an office full of Macs, all have Mac OS X Leopard on it and we were all super excited about the new Time Machine backup feature in Mac OS X.
We had some deleted file or what more often happens: an altered and then falsely saved file (usually super important with Excel or Word), so backup is very important to us ...
or not, because Time Machine to an external hard drive we could not do before, since Time Machine stores backups unencrypted. It just needs a thief (or employees!) Steal a disk and already he has all the information on the computer - extremely unpleasant for office computer!
Therefore, I have played around with a lot. (But which run only under Windows) Time Machine over a network, via TimeCapsule, fingerprint HDD etc.
Overall, I bought 6 different external hard drives that advertise the feature "encryption" - and all have failed!
None has worked with Time Machine, Time Machine only as USB disks accepted that offer native hardware encryption and this is not so far exists across the world (believe me, I've been looking for, for months !!!).
I had already given up hope, as I read in the Mac world by a RFID hard drive that is to run under Mac allegedly. So I bought it and I: IT WORKS !!!
I can now make Time Machine backups to the external disk and at the same time am sure that a thief can not do anything with the board. That's great - I can not put into words the. I have so many Sundays spent to solve this problem and whoosh: finally comes up with the idea of an external hard drive with hardware-based encryption to make with RFID. Krass why came as the major industry not it?
So, here again quite objectively the features that the plate so adorable (yes, I believe I have been very very much) make:
- Level A encryption on RFID Keychain
- Level B encryption via internal encryption when Bus (so you can not simply remove the plate from the case to come to the data yet)
- Runs on Mac OS X, making it the only hard drive offers the encrypted Time Machine backups - a must for every Mac OS X users
- Very quiet
- According to test reports: fast (but I can not judge)
- Looks robust and simultaneously wertig and adapts well color-matched to standard desks a
- The price is okay. If data security is not to pay at EUR 10 one.
My Conclusion:
The manufacturer: patenting the thing and make great advertising with the RFID and Mac OS X feature.
PS: After a 2-weeks of continuous testing, I have already ordered 4 more for our office :-)
