- I have 3 Mac (iMac 1x, 2x MacBook Pro all with Snow Leopard) in operation which all depend on the same network (LAN + WLAN) to a Fritz box with repeaters.
- Unpack, power cable in, insert cartridge, turn on. Then quickly the setup from the touch panel. WLAN found right away and finish. Excellent!
- SW DVD start the installer in the iMac and easily. I then installed all times what is there to choose so and was finished after a few minutes. Then simply add more printers and fax in Mac OS and you're done. Excellent !! Then quickly a trial print and scan a sample (sheet-fed) and so far everything is going perfectly.
- The installation on the other two Macs ran also without problems.
- Then I realized, however, that I can not find the advertised OCR software Abby FineReader nowhere - neither on the DVD still with me on the computer. So quickly wrote an email to the Epson Support and went to bed. This morning I find then in the Folder Epson software download Navigator, which allows me SW and subsequently install updates - including the FineReader. Almost simultaneously, I have an answer from Epson with an installer that downloads and installs the FineReader. Fun and fast service - when it would have been nice if that would have been declared somewhere.
- First scan with OCR works brilliantly. The text of the scanned letter is almost completely identified (Exceptions Altdeutsche letter of the "Frankfurter Allgemeine").
- The Download Navigator provides me also a new firmware, which I must however install according to instructions with USB cable (the SW even suggests even WLAN before, but I'd rather). Update works (as is now expected) without any problems.
- The new application now Epson Connect Printer Setup allows me now to also configure the "Email to Print" service from Epson. Again, this works without any problems.
- The new application also Epson Printer Finder now allows to configure Airprint me. Again, this works without any problems and print from my iPad works.
Conclusion: Day 2 and everything runs without significant problems. However, it would be easier if Epson would not for "every" function in a separate application with "not really obvious" provide name but ideally an application.
For print quality, ink consumption and behavior during operation so far I can not say anything yet, but the will nor grudge.
Meanwhile, I have the device for several weeks in operation and I'm still very very happy. The printer is addressed by 3 Macs and printing and scanning fold outstanding. The scan quality is superb, as well as the OCR software. Here with me nothing to be desired. Scanning multi-page documents with the automatic document feeder in a (!) PDF also works great.
Today I then connected even the fax. I was only a little skeptical because I operate two DECT telephone to a Fritz box with analog connections, naively, I then times the fax is connected in parallel with the 2 DECT into the wall jack and carried out the test of the connection. ... Behold, worked immediately. The reception of a test fax went smoothly after I had activated the automatic reception at the front. That's how it should be. The means for sending faxes is something fummeliger, since one here has yet to start the Fax tool in the printer menu to configure your telephone number etc. Possibly this is also on the printer itself - but I have not found it. Sending a fax is now also works almost as easy as printing, except for the fact that it has yet to enter the fax number under MacOS halt in the print options.
In sum: still super
