The Brocken was 2 H87 Pro or a i7 4790 mounted with me on an ASUS. So he replaced the Intel boxed cooler.
Of course I informed myself in advance and easily let me through some reviews and forums reports unsettling in terms certain aspects such as background noise and actual cooling capacity, ultimately, these concerns proved to be unfounded but with me.
Anyone who only slightly or not at all overclocked, can strike without hesitation here. More on that later in detail.
- Installation -
Contrary to many reviews and impressions, the manual is indeed kept extremely simple, yet sufficiently detailed and understandable. The assembly is divided into two sections, each for AMD and Intel systems. In a cross-section is depicted, as the screws are applied.
First: The Assembly erfodert NO motherboard removal, unless the four holes can be achieved to the jack on the rear panel. Inside more than the graphics card or other PCI slots must be removed so that the hands have enough room.
Only at the end, when the fans are attached to the struts, it can be a little tight on the motherboard side. That was but even I hingekriegt with my short stubby fingers.
The backplate (already provided with rubber spacers) is held on the back of the motherboard and then, fixed with four long screws, which are also put through from behind.
The loose screws are provided from the other side with "spacers", keep the same time the screws in their place so they do not fall out again, the housing now should turn or want to contact.
Once the spacers are, be it the two "bars" vertically screwed onto the ends of the previously inserted screws. Tip: A screwdriver is not in, so have at hand. A normal sized Phillips enough.
So, the basic framework is.
Now the radiator is briefly focused on the CPU, so that you know when the actual installation as it should be and does not have to readjust to the sticky thermal paste retrospectively.
If the alignment OK, the radiator is removed again, apply the supplied thermal paste on the CPU gossamer. I prefer several smaller blobs, other larger in the middle. A matter of taste.
Now the radiator comes to the WLP.
IMPORTANT !! You should still make sure that the radiator is oriented such that on the RAM slots side considerably more space is free. The cooler so should "tend" towards rear panel. For later on the side of the RAM easily the fan be clipped, as is also provided by the manufacturer.
Sits the block in the correct direction, is the conclusion, correctly attached to another "bar", which forms the actual fixing of the radiator down between the two cooling towers. While screwing the cooler can easily slip due to its weight, so stick with very light pressure when screws.
Now the fan is still missing. First, the four rubber knobs (vibration damper) come into the actual screw. Then they hang the enclosed strap in this rubber studs, and they spanned with light pressure in the radiator.
This looks at first glance confusing, but is easy. Always one side first. I recommend the bottom (or back) because the light here already Fummelarbeit is made with ner second person but also in seconds.

- Cooling capacity, volume, temperature, Conclusion -
The reason why the cooler is only suitable for highly overclocked systems, is not the cooling block itself, but the supplied fan.
This is more geared around low volumes, therefore less revolutions and ultimately less air promotion.
I would recommend this block anyway, if you're willing to upgrade to more powerful fan with higher air flow rate. This can be drawn from the part once again properly potential.
In idle the fan is inaudible. Under full load (1100U / m) is to perceive a slight running noise, I would still be described as silent. The feeling is of course always subjective.
In Idle none of the four cores on temperatures comes to 28 ° C.
By comparison SSD: 24 ° HDD: 26 ° GPU: 29 °
Under Prime95 small FFT full load I have not seen him go over 66 ° C. VCore and TDP are here but already well above the manufacturer's instructions and therefore this burden remains theoretical.
Under realistic conditions to reach in games with maximum details:
ARMA3: 55 ° C BF4: 49 ° C CoH2: 52 ° C Anno 2070: 50 ° C
When rendering with SFM I never get above 61 ° in the hottest core.
These are absolute peak values. Incidentally, I have no good airflow in the case. Each component cools more or less even. Additional fan I have only one unregulated in the rear wall.
Conclusion:
Normal users without OC and Silent fans are well served with this chunk. Consistently good cooling results and quiet running noises speak for themselves. The installation looks difficult but is very straightforward and takes a maximum of a half to three quarters of an hour, when you can take it easy.
Concerns about a lack of cooling capacity to the new 22nm processors (with smaller heat surface) are largely unfounded.
While the Direct Touch technology (Direct resting Pipes without copper plate) offers no advantages, also had an impact in my tests but not detrimental. Here was indeed saved the material, but the quality does not suffer anyway.
