The torch produces a rather broad beam. This has a significantly brighter than the outside area in the center. The diameter of the bright center is quite large, it is about one third to one quarter of the entire cone.
With this division, the lamp is a flood and is not a point source, with which one can light over long distances despite the immense light output. The PD 35 lit a maximum of about 100 m, other lamps have (even with less light output) much smaller bright centers, and also extend up to 200 m.
This is neither an advantage nor a disadvantage but a unique characteristic, and every prospective buyer must think about what he wants. For people who want to look at a small object at a great distance (hunters?) Which is not optimal, for me as an evening strollers with dog already.
At low light levels (level 1 or 2) I can with the bright center wonderfully illuminate the way before me, and may look to the less light areas around what the dog has been up to, without dazzling him unnecessarily.
The higher power levels (Level 3 - 5) light up even more distant objects well, and the 100 m away enough for me.
Clearly, a greater maximum range would be better, but that would just only with a smaller cone of light. And I think the great thing about the PD 35 that give the whole area is light in front of you and not just a point.
But the big stage still work just fine to make oncoming vehicles to notice me. Usually dazzle motorists from early on, when they see the light of the torch ...
The technique:
Solid processes, and not too large or heavy.
But can hold not too small, so I wearing gloves (and dog leash) prima.
The lamp will not unreasonably warm, which probably indicates a high efficiency in power consumption.
The 18650 batteries were new to me personally, but they are superior to the 1.2 V rechargeable batteries so far that the purchase worthwhile.
May I suggest an intelligent charger, which allows you to load multiple / other cells. Then all you need is a suitable battery holder for pennies, and is well prepared for the current and future developments in terms of power sources.
Operation:
The button on the back of the lamp (on / off) can be properly operated even with the thickest gloves. The other buttons on the side of the lamp (setting the power levels) can be even with gloves use, but can be difficult to palpate. But that's when most of the other models not much better.
There is then the strobe light that is supposedly intended for self-defense / repel boarders.
All I can say anything qualified. It seems hard to imagine that I could see at greater distance already that the oncoming person is a potential attacker. I rather suspect that I'll only notice if the person is close to me. And if me the flashlight still uses much ???
But as this may always be: The flashlight provides the strobe - function with its full light output, and not to do with reduced thickness as the other models. When the strobe function so ever what helps then it will help with this lamp more than with most other!
