:: Packaging / Installation ::
The individual Hue bulb comes in a simple cardboard box well and securely packaged. It is found out the pear and an instruction booklet no additional accessories in the package, as a starter kit must be installed already at home. Otherwise, the bulb is no more than an expensive white LED.
The installation is very easy. The old bulb to be replaced can simply be screwed out of the socket and the new Hue used. After that, turn on the lamp and start the Hue app on the iPhone (or Android phone). In the settings of the program can search for new bulbs. After a few seconds the app detects the light and assigns it to the Bridge. The setup is completed and it is ready for use.
Optionally, the pear in the app yet assigned a name (for example TV. Left, etc. bathroom ceiling) are that they are easier to find in many again.

The Hue bulb can like the others also represent around 16 million colors. Of course this is very broad and there are actually counted all the nuances, but this is far more than the usual DIY LEDs.
The bulb can be as usual trigger continuously on the app and integrates perfectly into the existing system Hue. The strong luminosity (600 lumens and 50 watts) it is suitable as a reading lamp, as well as for general illumination or indirect lighting. In a normal-sized living room is usually enough 3 pears from around the room to light very bright, each bulb is more luxury and is the color gimmick.
Alternatively, can be found in the App Store dozens of other Apps with which many gadgets such as animated gradients or Disco modes are controlled.
Annotate you should of course have all the Hue pears slight weaknesses in the presentation of, for example, light-green. But this is a compromise over a wonderful white illustration. Instead of simple RGB LEDs, Philips has decided, according to Internet for lime-green, royal-blue, orange-red LEDs. This allows of cold (blue) to warm (red) almost any shade of white and allows a room like in the old bulb and fluorescent times perfectly illuminate. Whether you like it cool or pleasant orange-white, it's all possible. This, however, will be in the color spectrum, among others. Greens shown little brighter (or white).
:: Conclusion ::
I think the other reviews slightly unfair. Yes, as told through the compromise for a perfect white color is lacking in some areas some opacity, but you have to consider what the lamps are to be used. They serve as a replacement of normal bulbs and you will surely his apartment not only color, but also illuminate white (eg. For dinner or for a book) Hue and since playing in a higher league than any DIY product.
For color accents the Hue Stripes, Bloom or Iris bulbs can be used.
The Hue bulb is particularly white and strong red / blue / purple / yellow tones are wonderful. In combination with other bulbs (which anyway have to be at home) can be such wonderful color scenes in individual rooms create. It's fun to play around with the app (which would have to be, however much improved or you can buy in the App Store directly, an alternative, but that does not flow in my evaluation of a pear). The only real complaint I have is the decision Philips no longer display the new bulbs in one second, but right turn. Anyone old starter sets has need in its rooms, depending on the pears grouped differently, so as not to have something comic effect light that some lamps directly and others come only a fraction later.
Since I have a part of my apartment converted completely to Hue and since months know the convenience and possibilities, I can recommend the use of each only. The price is high, the range of functions as well and at the moment we must (assuming we want) still feel as an early adopter.
