I should test this lens on my camera A58 at the same time with the Sony SAL 55300 extensively. I wavered between the two, I just ordered both. The lenses make very nice, clear and sharp images and in my opinion are absolutely equal at this level. Even the two autofocus is very fast and precise, with only a tick SAL quieter. What has ultimately led me to but the Sony lens is to keep:
1. Weight and size (Tamron is significantly heavier and larger. If you are traveling and with the lenses in your backpack makes excursions, every gram is a burden and a lot of space you have in your backpack anyway mostly not) 2. processing (it seems to me to be clear of the SAL-quality) 3. Original Sony lens (div. In-camera image-correction intervene) 4. Price (SAL 40-50 cheaper than Tamron) 5. Handling / Operation (SAL is handy, with Tamron will zoom through the GeLi if the other way is placed, difficult)
Conclusion: Tamron is a great lens! Were SAL-55300 I would not keep Tamron definitely. Who does not interfere with the weight, size and above points, it can be bought without hesitation. Together with a58 form a good pair for telephoto and macro shooting (the latter related)
