Supplement 15.07.2012
After extensive troubleshooting the map now works properly in DrectMode and also connects automatically correct if one re-enters the wireless network. In the firewall software "Exe.Fi helper" must be released again in addition, although the share is marked as active. Also I have the Eye-Fi Center issued a release, since then folds the automatic connection. A point appreciation, now three star.
Despite many destructive sounding reviews, I have no alternative decided to purchase the Eye-Fi Pro X2. According to Quick Start Guide (more of the pack not included) is to install and configure in 10 minutes fast and intuitive of the hand. Both a Dell laptop with Windows Vista and all the latest updates.
The installation:
The card is inserted with the supplied tangible Card Reader into an available USB slot and recognized after a few seconds. In a folder on the card, the installation software is stored that must be started with a double click. It is essential to have an Internet connection, because now the latest version of the software will be downloaded. After that, the card is still automatically equipped with the latest firmware and now we can start.
The configuration:
Unfortunately, the configuration is not as self-explanatory as it initially with the software appears. Many menu items are not explained or poorly. The online help is only available in English and the screenshots and explanations used in the online help does not reflect the current status of the software, so that it constantly gives Missvertändnisse because menu items or selection boxes are missing or are constructed entirely differently.
My attempts were limited to the establishment of the Direct mode, so I can get directly to my laptop without detours through an Internet connection, the captured images. However, the card is two hours to move to any employees. A wireless network is then constructed at last why, is a mystery, but a data transfer does not take place.
So I change my tactics and try the route via the WLAN. Lo and behold, the card sends the images good for Eye-Fi server and from there back to my laptop. So at least work the card and first feelings of happiness are spreading, since the transfer of goes surprisingly quickly.
But now back to Direct Mode, which simply will not work, despite the correct configuration. After another configuration tests and sheer desperation I found out finally, is that the card in their own Wi-Fi network does not specify identification and so recognized by Vista as a public network with restrictions. A data exchange is thus not possible in spite of established radio link. In Network Center you have to reconfigure the card as a "private network", then does the data exchange, even in an impressive rate.
However, one thing has failed me. Once the map of the radio range will come out the connection terminated. When re-entering the radio zone unfortunately a public Netzerk is re-established, so that only a few clicks on the laptop are nötg again until the data transfer is picked up and continued again.
The Switch also that any configuration change online connection must be maintained, even if you changed any online preferences. Overall, a moronic concept without rhyme or reason and little user friendly.
The Software:
Well, also here you could give yourself a little more effort. The Eye-Fi Center shows only small preview images of the transmitted images and even if one is striving for the integrated Lightbox Image View disappointed by the view can not be changed with 640x480px. A full-screen view with zoom does not exist, so the immediate assessment of the images do not have the software supplied is possible. Here clearly lacking a professional orientation with automatic full-screen preview of the currently active image.
The Speed:
Amazingly well presents the transmission rate. With the new Olympus OM-D RAW mode with JPG image is recorded in. Both files are transferred into different folders. The RAW files have sizes between 13 and 18MB and are in about 5-10 seconds saved on the laptop. The accompanying JPGs with 4 to 7MB need about half. This is fun when it works at last.
Problems:
Yes, unfortunately, very many.
- After a short time the camera was always "Card Error" on. Formatting the camera was not successful, only the full formatting via the computer brought the card back to normal work.
- The network problem is apparently unsolvable. There will always be a public network established once the card enters into a connection with the laptop.
- Unnecessary software without operating concept and only rudimentary functions
The conclusion:
I am always amazed at how to work backward in software development and as cardiac and approached pointless in operability. User-friendly concepts are the nuts and bolts of such articles and this is completely missed by Eye-Fi.
The good idea is destroyed by meaningful freed concepts that Funtionalität suffers from in-house interests of customer loyalty because you obviously the Eye-Fi online store with violence would bring to the man. With this service, you can by the way, as far as it should be mentioned, 7 days make its pictures to view online. If you want more needs to acquire the paid online package.
