You just have to get this straight a few things: Nightwish has evolved. You sound just no longer as the umpteenth variant of their first albums. Tarja is no longer there. And Anette does her job not bad: on the last album sounded the songs still very anxious, as if they were written for Tarja. This is now no longer the case, Imaginaerum fits much better to Anette's voice.
The baroque harmonies, of which eg Wishmaster has been strongly influenced, there is no longer halt. The album has many instrumental arrangements, but is no longer as experimental.
Meanwhile, I really like the album well! "Slow, Love, Slow" I think the way for total blast, even though (or precisely because?) Of this jazzy blues sound is something you do not expect from Nightwish.
Conclusion: Give the album ne chance! :)
