For a mini price I received a very good filter, am absolutely satisfied. It is mounted as seen in the picture so does not extend into the aquarium. The small box between the sponges is the pump, with me you do not hear it! Depending on how high you make the filter, it ripples which is not bad, yes means addition of oxygen and if not you can install it under the water surface.
