It should be mentioned that I previously owned a navigation system from the company. Medion, the min. 10 years and older was old and in which no map updates were possible. It was easy in the corresponding functions and designed the presentation, and there was so slow some quirks: the case of overheating (hot weather, Navi in the car), it took the streets no longer correct and generally there are now a lot of roads that unfortunately the Navi did not know. The volume of the announcement voice had a loose connection, sometimes "roared" me almost to the device, even though it was set to silent. It also sometimes crashed and had to be restarted using the reset button again.
The POIs you could in the "shopping" exclusively found Aldi markets.
I live pretty close to the French border and go from time to time to France. Unfortunately I could not schedule complete range across countries. I had to look at home only where I want to cross the border. Then pull over in the neighboring country short right to change the map of Germany to France and then enter the destination address or the nearest border station.
Was it for several days on the road and did during the ride home not as the nearest town is at the border crossing, there was therefore a problem.
Had during route guidance change with roadblocks or freeways that you wanted to avoid, you had forever back and forth clicking until you got back calculate a new route. With newer Navis you type the first few letters of the city or the street and already gets displayed suggestions on what the input very simplified and shortened - without addition proposals destination entry was only fully possible.
I have received the new navigation device 4 days ago and was able to start my first ride with it.
When unpacking I was only surprised when I saw the little box and had a fear that no support is. The Navi is very thin and therefore save space, it has everything in this mini-box fit well (My old Navi was in contrast a really big chunk).
Now to my new acquisition:
I wanted a GPS with lifetime map update. After a search on the Web with read various tests and reviews I have now decided to use this equipment.
The map update I have postponed, because I had to start the same shortly after unpacking.
Bracket mounted on the disk, enter the destination address and off we went. The operation I felt at once as self-explanatory. For the first distance that was sufficient in any case. One disadvantage, caught my eye at the end of the trip - the Navi is magnetically attached to the bracket. It took a moment before I could remove the device, because that represented a show of strength for me.
As everybody has already written, it can be annoying while driving, if ever at a speed exceeding above 1km / h alarm sounds that you drive too fast. I feel that (until now) as not so bad. Better so, than be flashed. Which of course you should still pay attention to the road signs, because you never know when this might have been changed.
Very helpful I find the announcement, in which street you have to turn, here the street name is mentioned. Equally comments like "after the next traffic lights." In addition, the graphics are also very clear, so you if you are unsure, you can see the exact street layout on the screen and also really, really turns. But the view is something out and you can see how the road runs. This was very bad for my old Navi and I now and then sometimes even too early or too late turned off.
Lane guidance is very relaxing. The display switches automatically and here you can still even have a look at the display, in addition is announced that one should be classified, for example on the two left lanes.
The POI's can show or hide. I had displayed all the time, not very annoying for me because you still anything can recognize.
The traffic alerts can be set to low, medium or much. That said, there are, depending on setting more or less warnings. The nice lady says this then accordingly, at the same time comes the edge of the display a graphic with markings and a Mini Statistics, the number of minutes delay, how many kilometers etc. The delay is equal to the arrival included.
The pronunciation of the Navi is ok, but not perfect. Some street names are pronounced strange, where you can read still even then.
A pity, I find that you can not display multiple data, such as when you arrive, as long as you still drives (how many hours and minutes), how many kilometers we still drives etc., there can be only one of this variant are displayed.
The Map Update at home took about 3-4 hours here should let the update run with a slow Internet connection possibly overnight. The installation of the required software is described in a separate sheet and this also recognizes the Navi immediately.
The memory card, which is required for the update, I had been ordered because of other reviews. I think that's unfortunately somewhat poorly resolved that the internal memory is not sufficient, at least for the first update.
I try to remember to update this review in about 6 months since I then surely more can say what, if any flaws have crept in.
For the first trip, however (2x 290 km), without reading a manual, I am quite satisfied with the device and its operation.
