Fits in front of my South Tyrol I got from my dealer a message that it has received a copy of the new Sony Zeiss 1670Z. Zack - was also already on it my name. :-)
The focal length has its charm - according to small picture 24-105mm. Although the integrated light intensity F4 appears little bit, but it apparently allowed the compact design. The 1670Z has very similar dimensions to the 24er (about 1cm longer and 100g heavier).
A novelty is that it is the first E-mount Zeiss OSS.
The workmanship is as usual high quality. Zoom and focus ring are perfectly accessible. The lens hood is very stable and also sits perfectly.
The image quality meets the expectations of a Zeiss regarding the colors and contrast. Distortions are in the lower range of focal lengths at maximum aperture relatively strong, with these settings Also fringing in high contrast clearly reveal. Here Fade is recommended.
The Schärfeverlauf is in my opinion such a high-quality lens is not quite fair. While the center is almost "shameless" sharp at all focal lengths and apertures, it looks to the edges at maximum aperture a bit weak out. In most designs helps simple Able ends in detail in the border areas should dim even twice. Yes I know that it is a 4.5 x zoom, and you can not expect optimal margins here, but Zeiss should be a little better (like the Alpha DT lens 1680Z).
Here as usual my Abbreviated list:
++ Brilliant color reproduction
++ Contrast crisp
++ OSS brings stabilization depending on the focal length of two to three stops
++ Compact dimensions
++ Workmanship and haptic
++ Operation of focus and zoom ring
++ Autofocus accuracy
++ Autofocus quickly and quietly
++ Sturdy and perfectly fitting hood
+ Bokeh very neat
o distortion at wide angle
o fringing in wide angle
- Feather at maximum aperture
After two weeks of vacation in the mountains I have the Zeiss already grown fond of and can use it as a standard lens would highly recommend.
Thumbs up and a fiver on it.
