The Revenge of Manitou:
Again, there is everything that I love in this novel, the occult, horror and action. More successful than the first volume, in particular writing, "The Revenge of Manitou" is a treat.
Masterton does not beat around the bush and slice still in the thick of it.
Result: you will not miss a single second.
And when we know that volume 3 is generally considered the best of this trilogy, we saliva in advance!
For fans of horror, a classic not to be missed!
Shadow of Manitou:
The horror in its purest form, this is what we offer this novel.
The horrific passages are striking and we reach the depths of our guts.
Yes, "The Shadow of the Manitou" We return the way as easily as we would go a glove.
Yes, this novel is a true horror novel you like them!
In terms of plot, Masterton takes a lot of freedom because resurrects characters who were killed in the first part.
But that's the magic of writing! And that's where we as an important point that many readers tend to forget: the novels in general are only fiction!
For my part, I was not disturbed by this fact. For me in novels as in life, everything is possible!
To continue with the plot, it grabs us from the first pages. Of course, maybe that excess violence also helps us to take full peepers!
If not for "Manitou" and "Revenge of Manitou" is obviously find the character of Erskine, still as wacky, offbeat, in his world, nice but a bit awkward at first. So a true anti-hero who I personally do not even confide my dog to keep.
Although in the end, I am identified myself to the character because I found myself in some ways (do not worry, if you entrust me your dog, it will be well kept ... or perhaps the inverse).
The history holds the road very well, there is of course the hot topic of the Indians of America over the centuries have had their peoples gradually decimated by the conquerors from Europe.
Hence again, Misquamacus who insists on revenge on the white man.
The third part puts more emphasis on racial problems experienced by during the 19th century the United States. African Americans joined Native Americans for a terrible vengeance nourished by their suffering (we have here is a common karma to a people) and the wicked Manitou took the opportunity to try to end once and for all to civilization of the white man.
And should also remember the reference to Lovecraft and the Cthulhu myth of Grand? We swim right in here!
If the book we merely by its number of pages, the final outcome seemed quite fast. Must we say that we have not much time to say "whew" and that no sennuie a second.
And I was not disappointed by this. So all is well.
In terms of writing, the tab Masterton is present and fully controlled (far blunders of the first component). The author oscillates between the view of Erskine (1st person singular) and also uses the third person singular to tell the passages to which the main character is not involved.
Total freedom of narration so little constraint and it is no worse for the reader!
This also gives a lot of rhythm.
Finally, "The Shadow of the Manitou" is for me the most successful of the trilogy based component.
A benchmark for the horror novel!
The return of Manitou:
Lintégrale of this trilogy ends with a short but interesting new MOREOVER actually far from being exploited. Masterton na may not want to abuse its good old formula and he certainly wrote to give us news of his favorite character Harry Erskine.
And again we take great pleasure in finding Harry, to see with all new responsibilities and rather quite blossomed.
A new pleasant to take as a little bonus!
