Previously I had a self-compiled 7.1 surround system driven by the Onkyo TX-SR 706 THX Select 2 receiver. Thus, the device offers enough performance (for a receiver of medium price category) and has been well brought my home theater room with the old speakers in vibration.
Two crucial mistakes on my part have my listening pleasure far clouded somewhat.
My speaker collection consisted of two floor standing speakers with a broad frequency range of about 35- 35000 Hz from Magnat, a center speaker from Canton and the surround and back speakers from ELAC. The error thus existed for one thing to combine different boxes with each other and use the other comparably priced speakers to a powerful receiver.
The use of the THX 5.2 sets immediately brought a heavily modified sound as different as day and night. The front speakers have a very fine sound with clear highs and slightly stressed centers. However, for example, the heights are issued much dose and the different sounds finer resolution for frequencies than with the old speakers. This gives a more realistic sound of playing movie or game scenes.
The same applies in particular to the subwoofer. The old 300 mm Sub has ample generated at Tieftonpassagen vibration, yet often put the emphasis on the intensity and frequencies rather little "washed out". The Devil Subs (actually 2 pieces) are the frequencies differentiated much more. Also adding to the realism of the sound representation, also it makes the subs less locatable, as it should be.
In the first trial runs of the entire speaker sets in the sound formats DTS HD and THX Cinema Ex, for example, the overall sound was to lengths clear and sound accents were better locatable than with the old set. The Devil boxes were not even brought nearly to their limits.
Who wants to try once again what can afford the set on the almost entire frequency band, which plays the appropriate THX from test Trailer. There a lot of the supported frequencies is played. In my last been played THX trailer a really incredible sound density and sound pressure, the chiselled me a broad grin across his face emerged.
At the latest after this experience, my last doubts completely follow. One or the other fine-tuning of the receiver settings will certainly still take place, but the overall picture makes me personally very happy.
Especially with the devil THX 5.2 set you can hear through the good frequency resolution out quite well how important the sound quality and the intensity of the surround effects are of film or playing of the game.
My recommendation is therefore to all those who still have a collected together or a relatively favorable Surround set, the investment is worth it!
One more comment about settings and sound modes on the receiver.
When setting You definitely will not leave on an optionally possible, automatic calibration of the space by the receiver. The crossover frequency of the speakers should be placed in any case to 80 Hz (THX). The settings of the speaker levels and speaker distances to the listening position you should definitely check and correct! Then a great sound, nothing stands in the way.
When using the Teufel set is striking that the various sound modes has been modified to other and even more effects that are as with the old speaker set. So start with the new Speaker Set best also equal Mentally zero and let you impress as impartially as possible from the system.
For me now is already certain that I keep the devil after granted by default devil test time definitely cherish and will maintain.
