Garmin has brought to the nüvi 65LMT a new model on the market, which is positioned as an entry-priced model. What is good for the device, and it pays in addition to purchase the smartphone? Here my test experience, based at two weeks intensive use (especially in northern Germany).

Delivery / processing / first impressions:
The Navi comes with a ball mount for a Sauggummihalterung. The ball head is pressed with gentle pressure in the unit, where it holds very firmly, but can be set however in the desired angle.
Prima: The ball end mechanism can be the Navi from the holder Remove (anti-theft protection!), Without the holder must be dismantled itself.
Also attending the charger (cigarette lighter) with Mini-USB port and a mini -USB cable for connection to the PC (for map update). The charging cable (not in the bracket) plugged into the device, and must be unplugged when removing the Navis so well every time.
The device has a set of maps for Central Europe, excluding the UK, without the geographical Scandinavia and Poland as most easterly country.
Prima: included in the price is a life-long map update.
On an instruction manual the manufacturer has unfortunately omitted (but there are online), there is only one Faltzettel with Erststarthinweisen and beyond 2 different books with the same warnings.
The processing of Navis makes especially for a Navi in this price range - an excellent and sophisticated look. Even the display is no shortage.
From the Garmin website to download the software GarminExpress can, with not only current maps and firmware can be loaded, but optional updates as funny cars, also can be saved favorites.

Display & menu navigation:
The 6-inch display is completely non-reflective and has a good size, the individual menu items are easy to read, even when the sun beats down on it. The manufacturer has fortunately not the large display with a variety of aspects overloaded, but made a sensible choice, even if this results in that you want to run if necessary. A menu step more.
Somewhat annoying is the constant safety instructions for each time (only with complete power-up, not from standby). Unfortunately, it is the message any more off as the Gepiepe in newer vehicles when the belt is not fastened.
The menu structure has fallen to well. The fact that there were not set too much, I could get quite fast with the details of trusts. Something annoying: POIs can only show or hide completely, but do not select (eg show me only petrol).
It is operated by touch screen (arrow and menu keys) or via the display wipe. Compared to a modern smartphone, however, the wiping does not work so hot.
The map view can be adjusted within limits, about the context menu in the Quick Launch or the design.

Navigation:
Can be used for destination input an address of course, but also a POI (eg a restaurant) can be specified, as favorites or the last destinations.
The route calculation is very fast. Route guidance is clear and without frills. Significant margins I do not have to be reported in recent weeks. What I liked is the integrated device in TMC receiver for traffic information. The worked very reliably on several jams. There are quickly available alternative routes when traffic congestion, which you can then accept (or not).
The announcements come clearly.
Prima: you can specify your own route preferences, to avoid about certain streets. Too bad: at the Route preferences you can indeed specify toll roads and more at the unavoidable ways, but not tunnels.
Not unimportant for owners of cars with yellow Energylabel: you can also set the navigation in a low emission zone, or avoid.
Well: you adjust not a speed warning, the Los beeps once if you also just 1km / h too fast (a tolerance can not be adjusted). Similarly, one can be warned before speed traps, this however, the acquisition of an additional license is required, the Garmin advertises in the same breath with which it indicates that the company is not responsible for the use. I tested but not the.

Apps:
Of course, each device has nowadays Apps as a Navi can not be missing so. Here about a route planner to save fuel or parking position app for Töffel are: who can save the Abstellort their vehicle, and then the navigation system to take on the shopping spree, it leads you safely back then.
All anything, what you really need, but it obviously does not hurt either. The most reasonable is still the info on the traffic situation.
===
Other:
The dates are recorded by default, this can be deleted but the function and (somewhat hidden under Device Information) also switch off. A bag for storing the device when not in use will not be included.
===
Conclusion:
For a very reasonable price in my opinion you get here a very decent Navi with excellent route guidance, including a very good jam warning. The large screen makes the device (at the price) interesting for users who have a navigation app in smartphone provided they do not drive almost exclusively on familiar routes, or you want to use this unit overseas, where the Datenflat of mobile phones usually ends ,
There are also some other things that I had to complain, I have long wondered whether I forgive 4 or 5 star. The price-performance ratio has finally tipped the balance to 5 stars.
