Tested: pencil rotring 800+ 0,7mm (German design, but made in Japan)
DESIGN AND BEAUTY
* Robust appearance, 800+ rotring is solid metal!
* Hexagonal body (not the pencil from rolling, once laid)
* Aesthetics rotring 800+ sober and very successful, with its famous red border (trademark of "rotring") on shiny golden ring, its very robust matt metal clip, and logos engraved in red on matt metal (which will quickly get dirty and wear beautiful traces of charcoal, but such is life of a mechanical pencil ...). Made in Japan, so impeccable finishes!
* Note: Packaging "green" economy, very sober, unpretentious: simple folded cardboard case, rather elegant, easily recyclable.
MECHANISM
* The rotary mechanism "Twist and Click" of rotring allows complete withdrawal of the gun and the tip of the pencil: the mechanism seems sturdy and reliable (protection of your pockets + durability).
The interest of the gadget:
- Once the tip retracted, it is protected from all shocks if the pencil is made to fall in - for example - transportation.
- This also helps avoid unfortunate accidents (graphite deposits dégueus, or outright holes!) When the pencil is stored in a bag or the pocket of a shirt ... a little fragile
WARNING: this mechanism "Twist and Click" however results in a very slight play at the tip as the tip is not welded (unlike for example rotring 600): this model is therefore perhaps be not fully adapted to technical drawings requiring precision to the micron (well, the game is really negligible for sketching and writing, in any case, it has absolutely no impact on the course, even to the rule) .
See over time, if the game does not get worse ...
* Bore in gilded brass, robust appearance, and "lead guide" tip seems reliable (it limits the mines breakage) and is long enough to allow a good view of the sheet when plots to the rule.
* The tip is fixed: Mine is not amortized spring (useful info for lovers of technical drawings)
* THE Specificity of 800+: when the mine is not output, it can use the soft tip (replaceable) as a pen to write or draw on a touch pad.
The stylus and the mine is on the same side (is retracted the barrel and the sleeve and can thus move from pencil to pen function function without having to return the creature), which does not inspire much confidence:
1 / the soft tip will inevitably end up dirty and stained graphite, and in the end we may baste the touch screen ...
2 / it is important to remember to reduce the mine before retracting the tip and enter the "pen" if the mine is likely to exceed the soft cap ... and can scratch the touch pad!
And I would have preferred to return my pencil, and that the tip "pen" is instead the little gum (present under the hood: a classic)
* Speaking of gum: once it is removed, there is the classic tank mines: new mines present lodge smoothly in the tube.
However, one can perhaps regret not finding small needle under the gum, needle for maintaining and / or lead the sleeve ...
GETTING STARTED
* Heavy (just over 25g) but pleasant to handle:
- The handling of the object is nice as facilitated by the "granularity" of grip, worked with great finesse (and even with sweaty hands, decision remains safe)
- Well balanced, with a slight sensation of weight - or rather pleasing density - on the back of the pencil: large hands will appreciate the pencil based and well in hand!
- The weight is not absolutely not a defect: it is like a camera or camera; I like to have a minimum weight to tremble less, and have a more precise line with a beast criterion plastic ... In practice, however, no fatigue, because the object does not weigh either 3T
* Plot level: the mine is well maintained and allows precise paths, smoothly, and reliable: compared to other mines doors, I break indeed fewer mines with this rotring with others, even plotting to Rule!
* A word on the use of the mechanical pencil in "pen" mode for touch screen: I tested it on Samsung Galaxy tablet and Tab3 on a Nokia Lumia 930. It is clear, relatively pleasant to use, even if I am not a regular user of stilettos ...
CONCLUSION
A nice gift / investment for demanding amateurs or professionals (architects, designers, designers of any hairs). To my mind, particularly recommended for mobile professionals, particularly for sketching asking accuracy and reliability ...
At 70, however, it remains expensive: for just under 60, the rotring 800 uses the same technical quality, "Twist & Click" mechanism, without the widget / Stylus for tablets. To achieve this small economy, and because I am not completely convinced by the "pen" side of this model, so I would recommend rather the rotring 800.
