The more you shoot with the S9100, the more they love it!

For about 2 months I have the Nikon S8100 and am thrilled. Since I have this camera gives me my hobby even more enjoyable. As it is understandable that one with higher zoom factor on the lookout at some point for a camera.
For several days now I take pictures with the Nikon S9100 and they convinced me from day to day. The 18x optical zoom is a dream. I did not expect after all the negative reviews. But first sequentially.

The camera body in Night Black looks very classy, ​​the S9100 is just as good in the hand as the S8100, but has compared to its smaller sister the great advantage that you can keep them closed manually with a lever, the flash damper when no flash is needed.
(You need the flash, you have to show it manually).
A disadvantage, however, I feel that the dial on the S9100 is where actually belongs to the release button. Until I got used to it, I have constantly around printed on the dial.
But now I think that it makes you hold the camera more easily with just one hand.

After unpacking the first impression is very positive, nice design and feel, the camera has a very high quality. Due to the very contradictory reviews for S9100 I was really looking forward to the first test shots. The photos are of course, the colors of a very good color accuracy and image quality.

But before you start, the camera needs to be charged for approximately 3 hours and is after inserting a SD card (I use the SanDisk Ultra 8GB Memory Card) ready quickly. The first test photos have convinced me that the S9100 just as good as the photos makes S8100.

A real manual control does not have the S9100. But compared to the S8100 can be set manually with the S9100 much more. Unlike the fully automatic provides in SCENE the opportunity to make a few settings. The dial conveniently scene modes can be set. Scene Auto Selector for many common shooting situations from the optimum Scene mode and the automatic white balance works very well.

In beautiful sunny weather, I'm gone off with two cameras and have compared them with each other a little. The wide angle of the S9100 (25mm) has me very excited. I thought that was very positive. You just get more on the picture. The landscapes have become beautiful. The pictures are sharp, many of them with 18x optical zoom, the landscape is natural, the colors are saturated.
S9100 has a very good auto setting (HDR provides even more good results).

What I missed at the S8100, particularities were as color settings such as sepia. The S9100 offers six color effects that you can select on the dial with Effects program function.

In the scene mode Tierportrait can adjust shooting because a good picture of moving animals is guaranteed. But you can also take the Scene Mode Sports, I have been doing mainly generated very good results. Particularly suitable for children and animal photography, I also think the program subject tracking. In the S8100, the subject tracking is still to select the dial, located in the S9100 in the automatic measurement under field program.

I have been a total of 500 images shot and recorded a lot of cinematics. The videos can be compression level for 16 in the low JPG: Play 9.
Video recordings succeed fairly well. Zooming while filming is possible. However, here not always make immediate sharp camera. I have to keep quiet a camera when filming already more experience. Nevertheless, I welcome the operation of the image stabilization in digital zoom range.

I am not a professional photographer, but only a passionate amateur photographer and do mostly animal, Landschafs- and flowers photos. But I have to say that to me already recordings are managed, that inspire me again and again.
The S9100 makes very good photos, is quick and offers many setting possibilities. The 18x optical zoom of the S9100 gives me the greatest joy in photographing. In very bright light (sunlight), the S9100 with 18x optical zoom on very quickly and sharply provides very good shots. The lighting is dim and when the hand is restless, the camera will either not sharp or makes blurred photos.

Indoors succeed very well when there is sufficient daylight. In good lighting conditions I photograph also prefer inside without a flash, because is lost by the flash light in the recordings of hot contrast. By changing ISO settings and exposure compensation I have always achieved good results. It was not easy for me, but not impossible. However, I would not give up scene modes.

Most shots at dusk are well managed. Later, when it was dark, I could make out nicely lit subjects. If the images have become not so good, it was because of my settings and not on the S9100.

Battery performance I rate as good. After 300 photos and 2 hours gimmick in the menu, the battery had to be recharged.

Conclusion: The Try and experiment with the S9100 gives me increasingly joy. Therefore, I rate the camera with 5 stars.
