Crazy World (Audio CD)

Customer Review

With their eleventh studio album, "Crazy World" the Scorpions lead 1990 some big changes. First of all, is separated from the long-term successful producer Dieter Dierks, who has been "In Trance" (1975) at the controls has the say and accompanied the band during their triumphant ascent to international stars. Then one hires as his successor at the Americans Keith Olsen, who has previously worked with Whitesnake and Foreigner and conveys the Hanoverians in touch with Bryan Adams' co-songwriter Jim Vallance. The Canadians wrote to Adams hits like "Summer of 69" and "Heaven" and helps the hitherto somewhat hapless texts by singer Klaus Meine to international stature and also as co-composer betiligt to some songs.

The concept works: "Crazy World" is the world's best-selling album of 1991 with 16 million copies to date the most successful of the band's history. It heaves the Scorpions finally in a squad with the greats. In addition, the LP is the last in the classic success occupation of the previous eleven years - Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitar), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar), Francis Buchholz (bass) and Herman Rarebell (drums).

After three albums in the Top 10 on the US charts a sound change is when the Scorpions with "Crazy World" also joined. The recorded in Los Angeles and Hilversum LP sounds again much rougher and harder than last. This circumstance is in today's vote of the panel but, if you forget, because a song out of it mutating into THE Bandhit ever and represents the other compositions in the shadow: "Wind of Change" - a ballad. But more on that later.

To kick off once the crashing guitars. "Tease Me, Please Me" has plenty of power and packs in strong midtempo to energetic. The title is now a classic and will be released as the first single. Although he can heartily tear in the charts little, he does like the new way of Scorpions clear: the songs continue to remain in the ear, but they occur a stronger again in the ass. Nachzuhören particularly memorable in the Main Reef of the opener.

Also "Do not believe her" does not deviate from the issued motto. Although it is a bit catchy, the crisp hardness remains not on the track. Not even the concise chorus does not change. The second single can also be booked as rich rockers. A total falls by then alongside the crashing riffs above all on the on the last albums often dull and little voluminous sounding drums of Herman Rarebell makes this time a lot of pressure.

"To be with you in heaven" then takes out a bit the pace without being to ballade. The massive reef of Rudolf Schenker and Klaus Meine pretty vocal line of perfect harmony, the chorus is outrageously eingägig. Very melodic and yet powerful. Sounds international and modern.

And then, in fourth, followed by the song, which to this day as it is the Scorpions blessing and a curse: The power ballad "Wind of Change". Singer Klaus Meine writes the title a few weeks before the Berlin Wall fell in the wake of the past in the air changes in the political world order. This circumstance also the title of the album plays on - crazy how quickly the world has changed fundamentally between 1989 and 1990.

"Wind of Change" is an outstanding composition, despite the initial concerns of Rudolf Schenker. The melancholy whistle, the emotional depth of the song and the brilliant chorus make the title of world's best-selling single of 1991 and one of the greatest rock hits of all time. Such a union you end up only once in a career. Although the Scorpions have released at this time already outstanding ballads like "Still Loving You" or "Holiday" - the commercial success brings only "Wind of Change".

However, as the classics is this: at some point you can no longer hear. The number mutated over the years by the rousing soundtrack to the fall of the wall to a totgespielten Dorffest grenade coming out one to the ears. She stands in a row with Deep Purple's "Smoke on the water", Bryan Adams '"Summer of 69" and Status Quo's "Rockin' All Over The World" No. 1 on the hit list of the songs that in for a while from the public a sealed Giftschrank should be banned, as they now are on popular Bierbesäufnissen even the most untalented marching band for the best. Very sad, because this song is really a milestone in rock history. If one takes out him in ten or twenty years, he is the more bloom brighter. Today, the Scorpions press mostly about giving this item live the best. How bad a really excellent song but one can get on your nerves.

Before again see my and Co. like the raised and until then baseless accusation of ballads overproduction exposed, is rocked with "Restless Night" again. While not freaking out, but rather delicately groovy, but with Schmackes. The album has arrived in the middle and is gearing up for renewed adrenaline rush.

And follows with "Lust or love". What a horny song. Energetically, melodic, catchy - actually a potential single, but as such the title has never been released. It combines the typical features of Scorpions in perfection. A metal band are the five never been really, but the melodic power hard rock they master like no one else.

This also proves "Kicks After Six". Although the number compared to the other sounds somewhat trivial, they nevertheless fun. Can you clean them well.

Really dirty it is then "hit between the eyes". The fifth single prescht research forward and is the hardest in the overall impression song of the plate. Driving and bulky with a Klaus Meine in top form, the soul roars from the body.

Something dignified presents itself largely written by Matthias Jabs "Money and fame". The reef is frying, the two guitarists flex their muscles and also the already known Talkbox comes again for use.

The title song "Crazy World" kicks in a similar notch, but a little less inspired and with a slightly higher pace. Not quite as strong, but still equipped with a nice chorus. Solider Hard Rock, which heralds the final ballad.

"Send me an Angel" is the second of the world hit record. Schenker and my composing together the title and once again demonstrate impressively that they actually do not need the help of an external co-songwriter. A captivating, full of pathos and trembling number scratchy at the kitsch border arrangements that burrows deep into the heart. To date, a classic.

Although the Scorpions been more impressive complete works published as "Crazy World". Polyphonic, tidy and presentable but they have never sounded.

So what remains finally to say the biggest album success that has ever landed a German group? First, it established the Scorpions as one of the most successful rock bands of all time and meistgeachtetsten.

Secondly, it initiates an insidious onset of creative self-discovery phase. After very tough follow-up album "Face the Heat" (1993) that can record considerably lower sales, look for the Scorpions in the 1990s more and more for her own identity. In a change from the emerging grunge rock scene they feel increasingly out of place and so follow the ballad-heavy "Pure Instinct" (1996) and the much-criticized, fitted with drum loops and all sorts of other gadgetry "Eye II Eye" (1999) did a Cooperation with the Berlin Phillharmonikern for Expo 2000 with the album "Moment of Glory" and an unplugged disc entitled "Acoustica" (2001). Only with "Unbreakable" reverse the Scorpions again in 2004 for classic hard rock back and do it successfully, to counteract its image as droves ballad uncle.

2010 finally appears their last album "Sting in the tail". After 17 studio albums, 2012 is actually closing for the Scorpions. You say goodbye with more than sixty as prophets in their own country are still considered to nothing, although they fill until the final world all stadiums with enthusiastic fans. Who knows, perhaps it will someday be so far that this country brings the respect towards them, they deserve. Abroad, they have long giant - and rightly so. Also and precisely because of songs like "Wind of Change".
