for me, this book is a masterpiece in every respect. The story: a little known episode in the French conquest of the Americas with the discovery of "noble savages" as Montaigne appoint, with the conquests and the Portuguese ambitions in the same territories, with a risky and adventurous journey across Europe until the bay of Rio de Janeiro on boats that were real galleys and with the charming and moving story of two young children embarked on this adventure. And then, to top this captivating story, style, vocabulary, a French as I did read that Ruffin at JC: Every sentence is a poem! I love and I place "Brazil Red" on the top of the podium in relation to all the other books of JC.R. I have read and I also much loved.
