Reviewer: WAYNE DICKSON from Glasgow, Lanarkshire United Kingdom Although the Pointer Sisters had a couple of letter bursts of success here in the UK, They are second to only the Supremes in the United States in the most successful girl group battle, thanks to nearly forty entries on the US pop and R & B charts between 1973 and 1991. HOWEVER, Anita, Bonnie, Ruth and June were more than a mere girl group. One of the most eclectic groups on record, the Pointers have written and recorded pop, funk, traditional jazz, soul and heavy rock without ever stepping out of Their depth. They even won a Grammy for Best Country by a single duo or group in 1975 with a number called Fairytale, written by Anita and Bonnie. That same year They topped the US R & B chart with another self-penned track called How Long (Betcha Got A Chick On The Side), Which served as a template for many of today's Rap / R & B hybrids. These tracks are available on the excellent Yes We Can Can: Best of the Blue Thumb years. This CD covers the years 1978-1986 When theywere reduced to a trio after Bonnie's departure. They Scored pop superstardom with producer Richard Perry on his label Planet and latterly RCA. One listen to it and it's clear why the Pointers were the leaders of the pack. Their Own Soul / Pop Combination what unique and highly commercial. Included here are some of the most memorable hits of the 1980's. All of the UK hits are present with additional US hits giving a fuller picture. Nobody did it like the Pointer Sisters.
