The White Man's Burden: Why the West's Efforts to Aid the Rest Have Done So Much Ill And So Little Good (Paperback)

Customer Review

Very good book perfectly articulated and argued even though he does not really represent my ideas. The Easterly criticisms made development aid but also actions to liberalize the economy forced through the IMF are clearly minted sense. His idea of "piecemeal progress" is also very interesting, development takes time and exchanges between governments and the poor is evident. Only problem with his argument, the idea that in the end it is always the market alone which will find the solution. The market and eternal anecdotes of this or that poor man who got away brilliantly as if each was necessarily a poor Bill Gates in power who were just not given a chance.

An important book for anyone interested in the debate on development aid today, far from the usual clichés.
