Phase 6 desktop (CD-ROM)

Customer Review

I have used Phase 6 in older versions during school hours and was actually convinced of the principle. Now I have again acquired it to have a Windows 8-compatible learning program that me facilitates learning of the French language during my stay abroad. And I'm not only disappointed, but shocked.

The basic principle of the program is actually not complicated, so already you can ask how the implementation could fail so. Almost every feature that I've tried, has a quirk.

== == Nothing works

= Slow =

First it should be noted that the program is incredibly slow. Even on my Zenbook with SSD and Intel i7 it takes determined 20 seconds to be ready for use. Any further program step (for example, the change from the start screen to query) takes time again. It may happen that you have taken on the screen already published a selection from the drop-down menu, the screen itself but updated again and the selection must be made again. Annoying.

= Verbugt =

There is a spell checker when entering new vocabulary, it is carried out but not synchronous but manually or saving the vocabulary. Then you will have to confirm that you really want to correct the error before you can correct the entry. If one has - unfortunately - the special character input means activated, you have to - for any reason whatsoever - these include first before you can enter something. In all most unfortunate case, the just closed input help but you need to correct the error and it must then call again only in order to carry out the correction can. The special feature: Sometimes the input help is open, you see them but not because it is outside the displayed window - and can only be seen in full screen mode (and close) is. This is not only annoying, but simply programmed catastrophic and I swear almost every query and input.

About the disastrous and partly absolutely counter-intuitive menu navigation has been here already reported. The update function is Stone Age: Regularly opens at program start a dialog, click on "Yes" and then lands on an Internet site where you will be informed that it (like for months) still "Check for Updates?" no update available.

= Cloud function and android app =

Thrilled, I have found that there is a cloud function with an appropriate tablet app for Android. But Caution is advised. I have an exam for something different input than mere vocabulary and nicely formatted the learning material on the individual cards in Bullet Points and highlighted important points by underlining. On my tablet then a continuous text without any formatting appeared, in which even lacked the line breaks. Learning with this word salad you can safely forget.

= The sale of educational content =

There was a special offer, I bought the program directly to Langenscheidt Grundwortschatz French. But what to write in the answer field you please, when the question "(not translated)" is. As a result, I had to revise itself repeatedly and precisely remove such senseless cards vocabulary purchased. A search for duplicate cards exists only for orthographic exact match - something more tolerant search algorithms would facilitate the revision of selling learning content much - I had many duplicate cards that have not been discovered and I had to go and delete them after himself.

== Conclusion ==

The program is a disaster in terms of ergonomics. After testing the Cloud function of Android support and the direct purchase of educational content, I can say that I am none of these features has even remotely convinced. In addition to the basic functions of the program are self-organized counter-intuitive and in some respects - for example in the spelling correction -. Verbuggt simply beyond endurance.
In times when you can get yourself flashcards learning programs as freeware, a program of 20 may (a really outrageous price) be in my eyes so badly programmed. I therefore recommend that from the outset to a different resorting program - I myself would like to do, but the database of phase-6 can not export without loss of academic progress to date.
