The songs in detail:
1) Today Loiter:
The intro reminds me of the theme song from "Shaft" (for the kiddies: The original version of course, not the remake starring Samuel L. Jackson). Then it's even pretty rock to the point. Mike Walker lets it rip and you want some places almost think it played Steve Lukather and Simon Phillips ... As an opener before a clear statement. And the groove is perfect for a summer day in a convertible.
2) Just to See You:
Beautiful, melancholic intro that eventually opens into a beautiful piano melody. Very relaxed.
3) Modern Day Heroes:
Flott, rhythm emphasized. Gwilym Simcock star pianist sets the tone - and that's always worth listening to.
4) The Sliver of Other Lovers:
Something quiet, is a bow to "When you hold her" beat from the first album ... is at least in the booklet. I think the song is also very good on its own: This theme is rhythmically very interesting and provides a good contrast to the gentle opening theme. Simcock adopt again the honor - and us the pleasure ...
5) The Crank of Cam Bay:
The song tells the story of a troubled Islander who wants of actually have nothing but peace and quiet, but he always has to fight with the megaphone himself. Beautiful medium-Swing, where for once again Mike Walker takes the lead with the guitar.
6) Love in Unlikely Places:
Simply beautiful: Simcock and Walker share fraternally the song. Very lyrical.
7) Barber Blues:
For me the highlight of the album: a lively, downright hynotisches piano theme that keeps coming up and processed very skillfully is. In between, must sometimes Walker play with and there is a successful bass solo by Steve Rodby, otherwise Simcock clearly the boss. The song I could listen for hours. Only the interplay between the piano and the rest of the band is a blast - and who knows the band knows that bring down to the icing on the cake also live.
8) Ever After:
Slow, lyrical love song, opened by Simcock before the others get on the beautiful, gentle swing. The contrast with the Barber Blues is very well done.
Conclusion: If you want to experience classic jazz in all its game happy his inventiveness and diversity, here has a very good chance. If anyone has the opportunity to see the band live - go!
