The tenor saxophonist Zoot Sims remained throughout his career a little unfairly publicized musician. This evening of 24 August 1978 in Copenhagen Jazzhouse Slukefter, he gives us a magnificent concert. He is accompanied by Kenny Drew on piano, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass and Ed Thipen on drums. The quartet interpère us eight standard and an original composition Sims signed. The musicians do not claim to revolutionize jazz but we play an honest music that comes from the depths of themselves. The swing dominates, often interpreted on mediums tempos and ballads (beautiful interpretations of "All The Things You Are" and "The Very Thought Of You"). As is often the case in his albums, Zoot Sims does not pull the blanket to him but leaves his accomplices to express themselves and be luxury sidemen (Kenny Drew always book sumptuous solos but the revelation of this album Bass solos are Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, bass is an instrument that I did not appreciate beyond measure). One has only to hear the discreet but sincere applaudisselents public to understand that they were lucky, the spectators present at the concert tonight August 24, 1978.
