Extremely positive, I find that Gabrielle Aplin has remained true to its previous style on English Rain, and has honed it discreetly. The magic of her voice in the foreground and it will mainly acoustic instruments played at their almost entirely self-written pieces. The producers therefore a big thanks that no overproduced Mainstreampop has come out, as unfortunately so often the case with young promising artists.
On the deluxe edition of English Rain are the same 19 songs to find. Three of them Gabrielle has already on earlier EP's released (Home, The Power Of Love, Please Do not Say You Love Me). Two other numbers has added to a new version (Panic Cord, Evaporate) and four pieces have been included in a live session. But a total of ten new songs has Gabrielle recorded for this album and these are truly the best!
Here the individual reviews:
Panic Cord - the ripcord is pulled at the very beginning of the album. Peppy retake their known track from Never Fade album.
Keep on walking - brisk piece with catchy polyphonic chorus On your way, go on your way.
Please Do not Say You Love Me - a great ballad. The outstanding piano version on the eponymous EP is, however, no longer be beaten by the two versions on this album!
How Do You Feel Today? - Feel good, because this song is simply beautiful!
Home - here is a really warm-hearted, great vocal performance.
Salvation - beautiful piano ballad with furious orchestral use towards the end.
Ready To Question - Is there anyone listening? I do not know, she sings. Oh yes, Gabrielle, we hear you all like to.
The Power Of Love - the ballad-like cover of Franky Goes To Hollywood classic was last December, the No. 1 in the British charts, which speaks for itself alone..
Alive Gabrielle's voice styled to complement the accompanying orchestra.
Human - a hymn to the Human: Show Me That youre human, you wont break. Oh love your flaws and live for your mistakes. Evocative trumpet insert in the middle of song.
November - the month of November was well sung rarely more beautiful than here. I always used to love of November. But now it always floods with rain. Yes, if the rain would not stop.
Start Of Time - Incredibly atmospheric piece. When you walked into the room just then, it's like the sun came out. Yes, as the sun rises but huge!
Take Me Away - beautiful classic folk number accompanied only with acoustic guitar.
Evaporate - previously published only on YouTube ID is spiced up here tremendously. I like both versions very well.
Wake Up With Me - very moody melancholy.
Conclusion:
My high expectations were fulfilled loose. For me, one of the musical highlights in 2013. So, and now I'm looking forward to Gabrielle's concert next week in Berlin.
