Yes, the small device works as described in the other reviews. A mini HDMI cable must be purchased for connection to laptop and receiver to and volume. And darkness; "Darken slightly" is not enough. For my purposes, I am satisfied: Home-cinema at night, or chess instructional DVDs in the Chess club at blind-darkness. Small, portable and not too expensive.
