Already the very first love song "Listen to your heart" created Roxette in 1989 one of their trademarks, that the forceful power ballad that always stands out next to the crystal clear vocals of Marie Fredriksson by an opulent orchestration with percussion, piano and electric guitars. This recipe followed Roxette even in farther outstanding goosebumps songs like "It Must Have Been Love", "Fading Like A Flower" or "Almost Unreal". Something kept quiet, partly sad, partly melancholic are the 1991 hit "Spending My Time", the sung for a change from Per Gessle "Vulnerable" or the dreamy, musically influenced by the oboe 1992er play "Queen of Rain".
Especially the incomparable "Crash! Boom! Bang!" united in one song all the elements of a class ballad. After a quiet, frugal arrangiertem beginning that focuses entirely on the songs of Marie Fredriksson, the song increases more and more, and finally culminates in the last chorus in an elaborately orchestrated bombast ballad that goes under your skin. Also extraordinary is "You do not understand me," the sound technically sound completely different, because the guitars are very much in the background here. The influence of the US songwriter Desmond Child, who played here in the only ever managed outside the camps Roxette song as a composer is unmistakable.
"Wish I Could Fly", the 1999 Comebackhit throughout Europe and South America to the baby pauses, characterized by strings instruments that create a very special sound structures. In the classic Roxette style is again the deeply sad "Anyone" held that although enthusiastically received exactly like the melancholy, under painted by powerful bass guitars and tubular bells "Salvation" by fans, but was surprisingly little attention at radio stations.
A special feature of another kind, the 2001's number, "Milk and toast and honey", which fall includes accompanied by keyboards and acoustic guitars as opposed to all predecessors spreads a very postitive mood and neither deeply sad, melancholy elements, nor a powerfully orchestrated power ballad. Two brand new songs are included on the Hitsammlung also: First, the pre-decoupled, very bass-driven "A Thing About You", which represents the only one dominated by Per Gessle Hitballade besides "Vulnerable" and secondly the very dreamy "Breathe", which was not coupled to the regret of many fans as another single.
"The Ballad Hits" offers not only 14 years of music Geschichtee one of the most successful pop groups of all time, but also the perfect accompaniment for romantic evenings for two. But alone this CD is an absolute treat and ideal for dreaming, get goosebumps and reminisce. Music, listen to the way a shame is- "The Ballad Hits" should be allowed to enjoy and work through active listening. Roxette's timeless masterpiece!
