MARKET POSITION
The Farlux F 10x28 is part of the 10x25-pocket class. It weighs approx. 275 gr 20 gr more and is the same size as the newest Zeiss Victory, but costs only half.
But the binoculars want to record high against the best in this class. These competitors are the Zeiss Victory T * FL, the Leica Ultravid HD, the Swarovski B, the Docter Compact and the Nikon HG. Furthermore, there are other well-known manufacturers such as Kowa (BD25-10GR), Leupold (Olympic) Minox (BD BRV), Olympus (Magellan), Pentax (DCF MCF II) or Vixen (Apex Pro), which in the luxury class with attractive prices get involved.
Finally, there are all the useful binoculars entry level of Bresser, Bushnell, Celestron, Eschenbach, Nikon Travelite, internships, Silva, Steiner Safari, Tasco, etc., which are, however, no alternative.
CONSTRUCTION / Processing
BaK4 glass, phase correction, fully coated optics with high light transmission, waterproof, nitrogen filling, nanocoating. The binocular has everything your heart desires.
The central bridge is dried over 2 invisible hinges or unfolded. Although it is approx. 20% schmaller than the Zeiss but that's completely irrelevant for the robustness. The full rubber Fokusierwalze has for a double width (14 mm) is, very close to the center of gravity and is full grip. The diopter ring is classically attached to the right eyepiece. Links is also a ring incorporated as Attrape so that the FG is absolutely symmetrical. Up to the lower side of the central bridge everything is rubberized. The material is smooth but firm, fills silky, slightly less sticky than the Zeiss Victory.
As you'd expect from a top range are materials and processing top.
The package includes, as usual, carrying bag made of synthetic leather (m. Velcro), thin Cordura strap (is rough but as the Zeiss has wide application with padding), and 4 lens covers that fit properly (you will be amazed!). The build quality is actually very good, but the bag has on the sides and bottom of unsightly wrinkles. The material fills up like leather at (fine scar, good grip). The seams are very clean. 1 Microfiber Cleaning Cloth is attending.
For construction, features, materials and processing I forgive 5 stars.
MECHANICS
The adjustment of the center bridge for the eye relief is perfectly symmetrical and goes. I measure max. 72 mm.
The Fokusierwalze is accurate, silky-smooth, uniform and without springs over the entire range (1.4 revolution = 500 degrees). The short-range intercepts rd. 4 m, but with very strong double-look effect, the last 90 degrees cover the remote area from approx. 300 m. When new, a very faint Fettsauggeräusch is perceptible.
The diopter adjustment has numerous grid positions, also is extremely precise, not too smooth, allowing easy corrections +/- 3.5 (finally at Eschenbach).
The eyecups are turning out dangers (1 intermediate position) and lock it clean, but will not be blocked in the end position. The resistance is also perfect, no more than a few degrees of rotation in the end position. With about 1 kg of pressure, it is possible to retract the eyecups back, which is convenient in the field.
For the mechanics, I also forgive 5 stars.
Optical power
The collimation is true, the focus is equally on both tubes. The field of view is 86 m / 1000 m something schmall and significantly narrower than the Zeiss (95 m). But leaves no tunnel vision. For the detail of the 10x magnification is impressive, which is due to the sharpness. An M6 hex bolt onto the TV antenna in 75 meters distance is displayed very sharp. Even the village letterbox test in also 75m distance (Zeiss laser measurement) is the Farlux with distinction: The words and strokes of black lettering on white paper are depicted very sharply in both eyepieces. Depict single pine needles against the bright sky in 60m distance sharp prepares the Farlux no difficulty.
The sharpness remains up more than 60%, based on the radius from the center received. She takes outwardly very gentle, so that in practice the observation of nature, the impression arises that the appearance is completely crisp sharp. In strong backlight sometimes a conductor gray veil occurs on the edge, and Störschatten Fantombilder I have not observed.
Contrast and brightness are impeccable.
The Farlux optics can not be brought by strong counterpoint situations from the rest, even the merciless test of the satellite dish against the bright sky, no color fringes are visible. Only for the experienced observers in extreme situations on the very edge light and very Schmalle yellow or green and blue edges noticeable if you specifically looking for it.
Geometric distortion tretten on relatively late, about half from the radius. However, they are then horizontally especially in the lower part and vertically - for example, by bending a flagpole - (cushion effect) obvious and similar to the Zeiss optics.
The picture is crystal clear, bright and precise, neutral in color and very plastic, evenly over the entire field of view (which is not very rich, however). It stands out clearly from the high cheaper Pocket Binoculars. The depth of field is very generous, is the binocular to 75 m focused the image appears focused from approximately 40 to 150 m. However, to achieve the absolute sharpness (eg Scharzer line on white paper in 75 m distance) has to be focused very precisely, not 74, and not 76 m. This is neither unpleasant nor problematic because the mechanics obeys to the smallest finger pulse.
Except for the field of view and something Schmallen the cushion effect is the appearance class. The cushion effect is even with tip jars usual and I have therefore withdrawn no star at Zeiss, but the field of view must already be taken into account, therefore, 4 stars, measured by high-end binoculars. Considering the price but smooth 5 stars.
HANDLING
The feel is perfect, center of gravity or weight are at such a small pair of binoculars a non-issue. The eye relief is very convenient, no black shadow, false images, bruises, very confortable handling. Quick as a flash ready and simple to operate. No difference from the latest Victory or other tip jars. For top grade.
I wear glasses, but watch to 95% without glasses. The binoculars I have tested with glasses, it is fully compatible glasses.
CONCLUSION
I'm not a fan Eschenbach, I have more Victory T * FL or Ultravid HD or Swarovski, Nikon HG and EDG, Steiner Night Hunter or even Kowa as Farlux binoculars.
But my opinion is the Farlux series the only von Eschenbach, who can compete with the top optics.
Robust, high-quality, high-performance pocket binoculars that essentially differs only through the field of view schmallere and the price of reference binoculars. One can thus formulate: 95-98% of the performance of 50% of the price, hence the term "secret number 2" (tip number 1 was the Farlux 8x24 - Read also this my review).
