Who does not want a battery grip, or the (admittedly subjective) ugly mounting eg the wrist strap Canon E2 on his camera, is served here first class.
The large contact surface of the plate, the camera is still on good to it refers to the table time.
The added value of the extra 1/4 inch thread on the plate. I use as a home-made solution from original camera strap and the fastening eye of a Black Rapid R-Strap (FastenR-3) in conjunction with the board.
And if I do use a tripod (which not too often) I have not even change the plate.
