I own the Sony 70400G now for almost a year and I'm still blown away by this lens! It's in APS-C Alphas like my 550 already at full aperture Excellent, Fade brings almost exclusively an increase in the depth of field. In FF Alphas like the 900, the image quality improves at 300-400mm by slightly stopping down again. The SAL70400G is super processed and is a real flatterer. It has only two recognizable for me perfect! On the one hand there is the very thin plastic sunshade that feels not very valuable, and on the other the plastic filter thread. The SSM motor is class and is extremely precise, even in low light. The manual focus is very simple and accurately perform. It is also favorable that 77mm filter thread, since the zoom like the 1635 od. 2470 of Carl Zeiss have the same thread.
Pro: * Image quality I've never seen so at a push! * SSM motor and MF * Haptics * Fokusumschalt button * Three easily accessible push buttons that can be individually adjusted in their function (Alpha 900)
Cons: * Plastic filter thread * Very thin plastic sun visor (no comparison to the sun visor from the SAL70200G)!
