I turned me to the service department, who responded quickly after all. Result: the signal is too weak (60%,> 100 Mbps), I use the wrong firmware, I have the repeater misconfigured, my router is misconfigured, I can not assign IPs using DHCP. After all did not help (I have all 3 now available firmwares tested) and I interjected that another repeater had been working properly, had to be defective, the repeater.
So I got myself a new device through the retailer, which -überraschend- had the same problems.
I then dispensed with further contact with the support and tested foreign firmwares.
- DD-WRT offers no image of 4 MB Flash.
- OpenWRT provides for Atheros chipsets no repeater mode, the detour via relayd did not work for me.
- OpenWRT Gargoyle 1.7.X from 8.2.15, however, several days running right away, without any problems and is faster than the original firmware. (DSL brings 10 MB, the original firmware right after reboot 8 MBit, Gargoyle good 9 Mbps).
My Result: the hardware seems to be good, the WLAN coverage is certainly as good as the Blessed WRT54G, the software, however, did not work with me. The service is friendly and fast, but also was no help.
Who do not mind losing the official warranty when installed third-party software, get a practical, small repeater. Out of the box I would not recommend the WA860RE.
