The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (Video Game)

Customer Review

With "The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks" the second offshoot of the successful series for the Nintendo DS has already been published. Unfortunately, the predecessor "Phantom Hourglass" could not convince me, because "Phantom Hourglass" but nevertheless has been very successful because of its weak gameplay, it did not look as if Nintendo would differ from the new gameplay.

Strangely, I've been playing around then anyway soon I as I hoped it would still be better. And as expected Nintendo's then remained true to the successful gameplay. And indeed some improvements erkannbar.
But first a few words about the action: This is linked this time directly to the predecessors, but found to suggest some directions for a few centuries after "Phantom Hourglass" instead: A young engineer apprentice, we call him times link, to be appointed by Princess Zelda solemnly to train drivers. Zelda seizes the opportunity with both hands, asking them secretly Link to Tower of Spirits to chauffeured because there strange things happen and beyond the Divine (!) Rail network increasingly disappears. But on the way there can be nasty types derail the train and chase Zelda's spirit from her body in order to use this as a blessed vessel for any disembodied bad guys. Link must now find the royale bodies and is to he done that has accompanied the mighty eroded spirit of the princess.

Thus one is then already arrived at one of the most striking gameplay innovations.
The royal specter is not only an advisory capacity, they can take over one of the most hated, indestructible phantoms also within the new recycling Temple (!). In one of the most powerful armor they can now beat up smaller opponents, distract other phantoms and transport link through dangerous lava. Only from rats she's afraid ...
As already mentioned there are by the Tower of Spirits in this game, a so-called "recycling stamp" that must be visited after each dungeon. This time, however, there is neither a caustic timeout still have the individual floors are visited again twice and three times. By Zelda's support makes the tower through challenging puzzles and fights sometimes even fun.
This also applies to the rest of the dungeons, the puzzles are challenging and even the bosses are more difficult than in the predecessor. Here the game has increased enormously.
Less pleasing are annoying train. By default the rail network, the game plays very unfortunately rigid and tiring. And if one is not just being chased by annoying and indestructible demons trains traveling boredom on the routes above all. Further stations rarities and related places are often tiny and dull. This disease has unfortunately taken the game directly from the predecessor. Loveless designed places and the lack of creative side quests Been the greatest weakness of "Phantom Hourglass". When Nintendo makes finally back the effort to make a right freely explorable overworld?

Apart from the weaknesses of the latter part of this time is also in a long time a musical instrument on board. By using a special pan flute link can trigger special events. The pan flute is controlled with the touch screen and built-in microphone of the DS and to make it short: It sucks mightily. The control is hakelig and it's no fun. The pan flute is simply unnecessary.
Otherwise, little has changed. The game is controlled to be entirely touch screen. There are only small detail changes as a new position of Itemfeldes.

Graphically has also not changed much. Many character designs were even simply taken over completely. The dungeons are fortunately more detailed than in the predecessor. This time the Eisdungeon distinguished for example by more than just blue walls as cool environment. This is good news.
Even the background music has changed only slightly. The new compositions fit as always harmoniously into the overall picture, but also do not fall appreciably on.

In summary, one can say the "Spirit Tracks" makes much better than its predecessor "Phantom Hourglass". Nevertheless, it is again not meet the brand Zelda. It works again a little unkind, including because the strange Railroad setting data does not fit the Zelda series. Technically the game is indeed quite acceptable, at Zelda fans, however, it is likely to again leave a feeling unwell.
