Hazel is 16 years old and has cancer. She knows that there is no question for her to beat cancer, but its lifetime to extend by a few years. But then she meets in the Cancer Support Group Augustus Waters, a very sympathetic to her boy, who seems to have the cancer already defeated. They get along well, become friends and the reader almost forgets that this book is not your typical boy-meets-girl story.
The book made me think a lot and made me very sad that it still does. I actually do not cry when I read books, most times for a page, but also very, very rare. But the last hundred pages of this book I have done nothing else except cried and thought: Life is not fair! I wanted to tear the book in the middle, because it is so unfair and so sad and yet so true. I wondered how John Green can do to us!
The characters, especially Hazel, Augustus and Isaac, are incredibly gracious in their imperfection. You are always very original in itself, one feels that the author has been really busy here with his characters. I can only advise everyone to read this book, and to let it sink in. John Green has created a masterpiece, one that in my opinion his previous books surpasses (which was not really liked the Katherine-book). But it is not a sad book, not really. Again and again I had to smile, sometimes even laugh out loud. This book is all at the same time. Maybe it's as good as at Imperial Affliction - if you The Fault In Our Stars have read, you will know what I mean.
Have fun with this wonderful reading I wish you all!
