Quite at the beginning a few negative points I have noticed the same, which would have almost persuaded me to give the camera a 2 star. I will perform the same times at the beginning here. The positive characteristics are indeed mostly been trumpeted by the advertising. Therefore, my review will focus more the criticisms. But you should definitely read on to find out why it then but 3 stars were:
- In the Settings menu, I miss some important features for me. So although you can set the two Fn1 and Fn2 custom, but only with settings that anyway are other buttons or the touch screen available. For the 3 dials There is no function definition (since it does not seem to be important that two dials share the same function) and I do not have a white balance with Kelvin settings.
- While there is a connection for an external microphone, but unfortunately no level control. How do you find out what is now the microphone settings as the right there now? Experiment?
- The zoom range of the lens can depart in video mode, only with a lot of turns of the adjustment wheel. If you want from wide angle to telephoto, I must embrace actually 4 times. It takes too long for me and a supple ride Zoom you can not realize that.
- This strange lens noise when switching on and off are already annoying. Sound like a quark duck. Friends with whom I was traveling immediately knew when I turned on my camera. With other lenses I have not tested the camera, here it is perhaps different.

- Too bad that Nikon is not the 5 Volt USB power used for a functioning data transmission. Similar to an external hard drive. - The lens selection is rather poor. With an expensive bayonet adapter but you can grow at least other Nikon lenses.
- The optional viewfinder is very good, but prevents lightning grow.
- With a new camera I always go through the house and take pictures of a few striking objects. Here I noticed the Nikon that the promised a speedy autofocus sometimes had difficulty where previously failed no other camera. Since the engine sounds like a disc jockey who scratched around on the record without coming to a conclusion. Did the course checked with the other cameras, although they were but had little slower with the same situation and lighting conditions no problems.

1. In automatic mode, the brightness control happens only gradually, which very annoying in a pan with different light intensity. Here, then, rather adjust everything manually.
2. Here you also re-elected a non-typical for Germany Frame format. Usually there with us 25 or 50 frames for video files. Nikon is working with 30 or 60 frames. The flickering that may occur in lamps, for example, but you can adjust luckily the menu to 50Hz. Why so complicated?
3. When asked, the Nikon is better than a camcorder, I regret to say no. They circumcise unfortunately itself by the fact that only a shutter speed of 1/100 or more can be used (even though I selected the 30-frame video version). What me is going to lose brightness, can be made up for with a high ISO value which makes then a red dancing dots in the picture felt. Pity!
4. On the other hand, I noticed that the video length is limited to 10 minutes. Longer shots so just go with more video start.
Here are some criticisms that have struck me in addition:
- Why can the great effects only in Effect mode and not in M mode apply (such as eg Olympus works)?
- Why is it so difficult to install this software, which ultimately even cost money?
- When there is finally going to the new battery Nikon EN-EL20a Li-Ion (must only therefore be new, because it so Nikon wants to additionally earn money). At Amazon you can only pre-order it unfortunately. Or I have to buy for the moment a second V3, so I have a spare battery?
Thus, the negative points I have done. But have we come to the point that again made me a little hope and then not for 5 but taken care of, at least for aspiring 4 Star.
Image quality: Was previously enjoyed. Of course you can get out with the photographic skill the best of the quality, but also in auto mode come about remarkable recordings. Of course, at high Isowerten the noise is higher, but thanks to the still "relatively" large sensor not as bad as I expected. Disadvantage possibly being the objective. But perhaps the productline will soon be expanded so here.
Basically, I do not like with the lenses currently available that the push parts lacking intensity, turn bright fixed focal lengths are more settled at the telephoto end. A beautiful wide-angle (so between 20-35mm) with at least 1.8 are nowhere.
Features: Toll I'll find that you can also adjust the depth of field using the knob of an image now. Of course, happens in the camera with nothing more than the shutter speed and aperture combination, but a layman, this function is like. The Panorama function works well and the images taken are assembled directly in the camera. Unfortunately, the image size is only 4800 x 920 pixels (or 9600 x 920 in portrait orientation). Otherwise, there are the typical effects, HDR, fleet continuous shooting (when the focus is not always so sitting), all the ambitious amateur photographer needs.
Wifi function: This works well and if you (with me an Acer Iconia) installs the appropriate app for your mobile (with me a Xperia Z) or Tablet PC, you can order transfer even remote triggering and the images on a larger screen via radio and view.
Conclusion: In general, I like the small beautiful N1 V3. The picture quality is very good at what you should expect for the price range but. The negative points I have probably all listed and murky for me a little the big picture. If you consider that one here who is in the prestigious Nikon camp, where the photographer shake their heads when you comes along with a Sony or Olympus, then I would have expected more. When you consider what innovative and great features, the company said its cameras spendieren (integrated viewfinder, rich lens range, extremely low setting, 5-axis image stabilizer) then unfortunately I'm a bit disappointed by Nikon.
I admit with zugedrücktem eye just reached 3 stars. A camera with comparable features you get with the competition starting at 600 Euro. Who can do without the WIFI function, the high-resolution monitor and Nikon logo and more emphasis on image quality should look at times the Olympus PEN E-PL5. The much-criticized Canon M (without folding monitor) is as worlds better, but costs only 350 Euro scarce.
Addendum 05.08.2015: The rickety protective shutter of the lens (10-30mm) has now unilaterally given up the ghost. The lower part no longer closes and hangs somewhere in the housing. Sure, my fault may be, but that may not happen with a camera for the all-round operation. For that I now draw again from a star. Stay two stars from the former. 4
