Unfortunately, I realized in the course of the narrative, however, that the book does not appeal to me at all. And I would like to summarize a bit, which is why I dislike this book so. Let me say also deliberately 'the book' and not the story, because this is actually the basic idea very interesting and exciting. First of all there is on the back cover a very nice introduction to the story that leaves you wanting more.
The first pages of the book have then also read quite well and the reader has to get a good impression of the world in which 'the warded man' plays. Peter Brett describes in great detail the environment in which the main character lives and how this interacts with his friends and acquaintances. All this is a good start to get to know the character once. When he was then driven by the demons attack, but I thought the beginning was over now, and the story can now start properly. And this is where my criticism, because that's my opinion, does not happen. Instead, a second and third character is presented, where I got the feeling that I'm starting now again a new book to read. It also bothered me that the main characters for so long have nothing to do with each other.
Endless pages tells of Peter Brett then Leesha and how they lived in their village. Endless details are presented one, many supporting characters represented, which do not advance the story. I think the reader got a very good impression on Leesha after about 20 pages that would have been enough. It is missing in many places of the book a voltage that keeps the reader entertained. Too often simply told just about normal everyday situations, without that it has an added value for the reader. The only power which is maintained over several chapters, is the story of the stone demon. That is simply not enough.
Most chapters end with no turning point or stress buildup. And that I find totally a shame because the backstory would have so much more to offer. I have tortured myself definitely very long by the line and had to give up even in the consideration. Since I still have hope in the second part, I will try again on this.
