Tropico 5 (computer game)

Customer Review

As a longtime Tropico fan of course I immediately gained me the latest installment of the series. However, after a few days playing time I have the impression that the developers have released an unfinished beta version of the game, rather than a ready-made version. The balancing of the game leaves to be desired in many questions left and some important features I miss completely. But first things first:

GRAPHICS:
The graphics engine is according to the developers a new development. You can see that her not to, as the game to a large extent still looks like the predecessor, but still the graphics are nice to look at. All objects are quite detailed designed and provided with appealing textures, even if that is right no matter due to the low zoom level, in which you probably usually plays. The models for buildings, my impression, completely redesigned. There is not much to complain about. Who liked the graphics of its predecessors, will be satisfied here.

SOUND:
Again, the resemblance to its predecessors is great. As music blare catchy Latin American pieces from the speakers, however, be complete without singing. Personally, I find the background music right fit. The voices and sayings of the newscasters and consultants, especially the consultant Penultimom are however getting used to and are not likely to meet everyone's taste.

GAMEPLAY:
Essentially, the principle has been left untouched. Man builds houses, entertainment buildings, farms, factories, etc., to keep its population happy and to fill the treasury, so that you can make further investments. Who wants to play of course, as nasty dictator and oppress his people. So far so good ... But as so often, the devil is in the details. The game offers five levels of difficulty, each separately for politics and the economy, to "you win in any case" to "You win by no means" rich. At low levels of difficulty the game is ridiculously simple and provides even novice no challenge. At the higher levels of the game, unfortunately, has too few options, especially information in order to optimize the business. For example, the number of unemployed will be displayed at the same time are farms, despite good transport links without working there. Many options for fine-tuning, which offered the predecessors are no longer available, since in some cases the buildings are no longer available. Thus, the number of immigrants can no longer govern comfortably over the immigration authorities, but only through a cumbersome option in the Constitution, but which can be changed only every few years. New features such as the trade through trade routes seem ill-conceived and even do not really noticeable. To set the new option a dynasty is also available, but works very fake and not very useful. The electoral system was also changed: a speech before the election, there is no longer, so that its citizens can only convince with the construction of new buildings and adopt, on its. Due to the very tough construction system can often be so not needed to finish building. In addition, the consent of the population in announcement of elections falls abruptly by several percentage points, and often again one month before the election, so no time to react more remains. And a lost election is "Game Over".
A real impertinence, however, that you can not restart with another difficulty lost missions. You notice late in the campaign that has taken wrong decisions in building the economy and is facing ruin, the inclined player is only the possibility to restart the campaign with a lower level of difficulty.
The campaign consists in this part of only ten missions whose sequence is known from its predecessors. Here is nothing new on offer ("Export X tonnes thereof; produce Y tons of it; build this building, you explore those technologies.") In the end, it always runs out to build a strong economy. Unfortunately, the campaign plays on only two islands. Variety is different.

Overall, the game has indeed many good known from the predecessors approaches, but in most of the new content seems to me the motto "Well meant the opposite of well done" to apply.

Very educational game! 1 Rank: 4/5
