While it starts very exciting, but later in the author does not seem to be able to decide whether it is a love story, a thriller or a SiFi novel should be.
Overall, it is neither fish nor fowl, the tension is artificially peppered with a lot of violence, but in between smothered with plenty of pseudo-scientific explanations of the extraordinary abilities of the main characters back in the bud. The telepathic tours of the main characters in the brains of the partners seem artificial and boring in the long run.
The exceptional superhumans one hand traumatized by her past, and other hand, obsessed with the possible increase in their forces. This makes them seem pretty self-centered and I could not understand why the respective "normal" partners should have falls in love with these people.
The female protagonist Mac sucks plain and simple.
Moreover, I can not approve of the impression that Ms. Brockmann has been inspired from the books by Shannon McKenna. In this author, there is the Ostermann Institute, here the Obermeyer Institute. Like setting, also brain experiments. Also fast paced action and lots of sex. Well, maybe just a coincidence.
As a die-hard fan, I will wait for the next books, but this series beginning does not bode well :-).
