I shoot mainly in the fields of portrait and wedding photojournalism. Since the possibilities with the 600D are alone of course very limited, hence the desire for a better second camera.
I then allowed myself the body of the EOS 70D also the beginning of December through Amazon. Compared to my old EOS 600D some improvements are of course available: Focus speed in Live View mode, 19-point AF, low-light properties, WLAN and much more ...
Unfortunately, the 70D missed (at least my model) the main discipline: taking pictures through the viewfinder with fast lenses. I have a whole day several test shots with my two lenses made - the EF 50mm 1.4 and the EF-S 15-85mm. The result: images that have arisen with the EF 50mm 1.4 in Live View were all in order - that is, the focal point always true. Photos (Alike) made through the viewfinder and the center AF, had a fairly high rejection rate when it comes to precise focusing and sharpness.
It came to me so precisely the problem, some users of the already had reported here and in various other forums. To change various settings for the auto focus, produced no improvement.
After careful consideration, I have camera ultimately sent back because I can use for this price no camera with a "lottery-focus" through the viewfinder.
A further disadvantage of 70D: apparently here a new RAW format is used that could not read my Photoshop Elements in the 11er version. Also in this Picasa3 were reproduced in a strong Purple Veil. At the moment I do not know if there is, at least for an update or Photoshop plug-in, which eliminates this version conflicts.
Overall, I had the Canon EOS 70D 4 or 5 star rating as given since they just score points with the enhanced video function, the fast Live View focus and its good amenities and is convincing. As long as the described Viewfinder focus problems (not well at all) occur in some models of the 70D are fixed by Canon, I would not suggest the purchase.
Since yesterday am in possession of the 700D - the shots through the viewfinder with the EF 50mm 1.4 are as they should be - Focus accurately and without sharpness problems, even at maximum aperture! The only as a supplement ...
