The first was the E-300, the I in "intense field use" had a whole year. Unfortunately, she was not quite ready for the same in a number of ways: The overall color impression left something to be over, reds were ever rendered incorrectly (pink), and the automatic exposure had a bug: sometimes ignored the camera, the selected measuring field and took only the brightest spot on image for exposure approach (eg. as a lamp, the rest of the image was black). Whether Olympus has these problems possibly later adopted by a firmware update, I do not know.
After that I had several years the E-500 in use. When Olypmus had done his homework. The colors were wonderful, the autoexposure very well in the sunshine. For the complete measurement field gave very predictable and useful results. Other cameras set with larger spot sizes far too much weight to the sky, so that the rest of the image is underexposed. Only in overcast weather you had to turn up the exposure. In addition, the camera saw the settings when switching off. Only the malfunctioning Continuous autofocus was disappointing. The cover of the card slot cover is exactly where you have the camera as a right-handed tight grip. For me it was after about 25,000 images a loose connection to the sequence so that the camera in motion to save images broke. Remedy managed two at the camera taut rubber bands. After one day the card slot simply gave up the ghost, I was up on the E-620.
Although the E-620, the E-500 surpasses equipped than a lot, but there are setbacks that make me seriously consider whether I should not go back to an E-500 again. Therefore, a maximum of three instead of four rating points from me.
So it is not possible to simultaneously adjust (eg sports. B.) a scene mode and store the individual settings, as is not activated in the case MyMode for some unknown reason. Although these are just a few handles, so it sucks in the long run but very, always having to change everything again.
In addition, Olympus has unfortunately, with regard to the automatic exposure, approximated to the other producers. In the two major focus areas now extends a bit the sky, and the automatic provides unpredictable results that can sometimes differ by -1 EV from the optimum value. For someone like me, who makes a lot of shots and often has a few seconds to rip the camera out of his pocket to zoom, and pull the trigger, which is a major disadvantage when you can not rely on the automatic.
The E-620 appears again to have a reddish tint, as before the 3 series, but not the 5 Series.
