Basically, you'd think a successor can do anything better than 'the old'. In this case, unfortunately, far from it. The camera comes nowhere near to the image quality of the ZX1 zoom which is very surprised. The picture appears in all modes (720p 30fps, 720p 60fps, 1080p 30fps) flat at the colors and the worst, the focus is much worse. In moving images (eg cyclist in the picture) or if you 'leaves' a panorama with the camera has a constantly jerky, slightly nachgezogenes image. Who a 100Hz tube TV times has (had) knows tighten this. The comparison is perhaps now greatly exaggerated, but it goes in the direction. The ZX1 I have the recordings always feel I'm there live in the ZX3 not.
I have now tried several things to the remedy, I thought maybe I have something set incorrectly. So I turned off the autofocus and then even the Image Stabilizer. The firmware is the latest ... Unfortunately I also sees no image enhancement. As I reviewed the record on a 50 'plasma I can I think good and objectively evaluate.
Not enough, the sound is muffled. I thought ok, the micro is protected for underwater capability and therefore hidden somewhere. Advantage here would be, too, that you then had no more wind noise in the recordings. Unfortunately, the camera also makes wind noise and therefore also offers no advantage here.
The ZX1 makes the way clear and distinct really good recordings.
All in all I am after I have examined the recordings unfortunately very disappointed.
I am glad to have bought the ZX1 first, otherwise I would have thought that no good a pocket camera for good video.
The ZX3 has a lot of good news and as the ZX1 processed well:
Benefits for ZX1:
- The camera angle is at 720p compared to the ZX1 much better what pleased me only high
- 1080p / FullHD has generally slightly better image quality compared to 720p (720p but is already more than good)
- No strong juddering more in low light, which is ZX1 namely for shooting in dark places more
unsuitable
- Auto Focus
- Display of the remaining time (= memory) in min: sec
Disadvantages
- Image Stabilizer ineffective, see no improvement, rather counterproductive
- Picture quality mE more than unsatisfactory, violent jerks on fast pans
- Sound dull, at best sufficient
Neutral:
- With 1080p recording angle with the ZX1 at 720p identical
- Both are well made, fit comfortably in your hand and look good
- Wind noise on both models clearly audible
- Both cameras are operated remotely (with the identical Kodak remote control), the ZX1 has but apparently better
IR sensor, since the remote control is easier here
Conclusion: If you have a steady hand should be the very favorable ZX1 look at it that's now for 50, -. From the ZX3 I can only advise, because here the handy design and the advantages described must be easily bought with to great disadvantages in decisive areas. Picture and sound must be right! ....... Let's see what the ZX5 can. I hope that builds on the good qualities of the ZX1 with the advantages of the ZX3. I will report .......
Update 19/09/2011:
Got the ZX3 a 2nd time ordered, because I wanted to rule out a "Monday Model". Unfortunately, this camera was no better and thus the camera is really as bad as described.
