The Vine-product tester "LTM" begins: "Samsung is synonymous with quality." This statement I can not leave you as a lump sum. The behavior, the speed and reliability is part of the quality for me, or just, in case of shortage. But I'll start at the beginning:
In October I started my studies in business computer science. For this I was looking for a day supposedly indispensable mobile companion. Since my 13.3 ", the typical Ultrabook display size, simply appeared too small, I was looking in the range of 14-15". Price range around 1000, not OSX, matte display, good resolution (1600 * 900, for example), long battery life, SSD, backlit keyboard, 3 USB (min. 1x USB3.0)
Everything seems perfectly united so I found only in Samsung NP-900X4D A02 (for info: A02 = W7, W8 = A03; identical). Although a Lenovo S430 also came close, but startled me there supposedly short battery life from.
Bedenkpunkte that I had before buying:
- Sandisk U100 SSD. Not a very comforting thought if it's probably cheaper to buy a Samsung SSD strange to use as a home of their own. In an exchange unfortunately void the warranty.
- Permanently installed battery. Oh, honestly, I like to screw, but a battery replacement, I've never done. I take that back.
- Display: TN. IPS or similar improvements in the arrangement of the liquid crystals are not there, with my budget and the desired size. But on my desktop are also just normal TN-LCDs, I let it get time on it.
As a good piece finally was home, the concerns were not gone, but I decided micht that they bring me to nothing disturbed. The SSD is actually no miracle of technology. Sure, just the boot process is both under W7, and W8, wonderfully fast. But it does at other things like program start, but happy times thinking seconds, I'm so not used to from my Crucial M4 on home computers. But even in verschmerzbaren frame.
The display can be very bright and is actually very dull. The vertical viewing angle stability is in order, the person sitting next to on the train can a very nice genuine stare at the screen. Horizontal the display is easy to say the least bad, even slightest tilt changes the eye level up or down and the colors. If you want to annoy the curious man in the General Admission behind with bad-to-read content, will love the display.
After uninstalling all useless programs I actually came just as to around 70GB (W7) or 60GB (W8) clearance. Much less than expected, but also so I can live. Scripts do not take a lot of space.
I can recommend the way the program "SW Update" from Samsung, so it turns out easier than to install via the webpage itself important programs (eg for Fn keys) and drivers.
The connection to a projector designed often not so easy, unfortunately, many have only a VGA input and the VGA dongle should we buy more for 40. For me so far lacked the motivation.
So, unfortunately, (end of October) turned after two weeks a problem one: the touchpad repeatedly heard sporadically to respond. Uninstall, install and update the drivers, formatting with Recovery Center, reinstalling W7 and W8 also via USB stick, all useless. Google did not help. A hardware defect. Na class.
Samsung itself, incidentally, does not repair its products, outsourcing is the magic word. I was passed on to a third party named Samsung Bitronic in Kleinmachnow.
Call for Samsung (not free) for repair went pleasantly quickly by hand. Unfortunately, the original packaging is not considered post-safe, so it is first to wait for a free reached a package for einzuschickende laptops. After about 3 working days, you can then take the thoughtful box in reception and on 1 November, I was able to send the packet. Mitgelegt I have a detailed description of the error and even a self-burned DVD on which I immortalized videos of striking touchpad. Not that this sporadic error is still dismissed as a figment of my hand.
In fact, this was not the case, after about a week, the online status changed to "Waiting for E-part". And then? Nothing. Nearly three weeks simply nothing happened.
In the meantime, I was confirmed in the fact that a block, a pen and a printer completely sufficient for an economic study computer science. Analog on par with digital where you can already still claim, hah!
When the month was then nearly cracked, kindly me a prominent lawyer has struggled through the thicket of Samsung's telephone hotline. It turns out to be extremely helpful, that employees of the e-mails and phone calls do not support staff can not write emails / want / can. Well, on the slightly less friendly way, we made it clear that we, if the laptop does not come back within a week to withdraw from our contract and Samsung may be happy at Christmas our distributors send the laptop. We would then reclaimed by the dealer Our money.
This pressure in the neck was the replacement part (Top Cabinet of my laptop, as I could read later) then suddenly the next (!) Day and was timbered in record time on my laptop and before the deadline I had him back in his hands.
What remains? A functioning again chic laptop with small scratches in the new cover. Although he has occasionally his problems with the gestures of W8, but I have no head currently out for whether this is due to me, the touch pad, or the drivers. Otherwise, outwardly nothing to discover.
A bad aftertaste, Samsung has left me, in the future I'll probably, if possible, more likely to make a detour around this company, but I'm not entirely discourage from this product. Who can with the limitations I mentioned earlier, also in terms of support, live, to access.
