Yet avid SF for nearly 40 years, I have only recently discovered Alastair Reynolds through this wonderful novel. The writing style, very nice, very fluid and particularly effective, literally transcends the "vision" of the scenes described. This is one of very few authors which, as and as we turn the pages, almost see the film as the dialogues are natural, clear ... alive. Extraordinary! Some compare Janus the famous "2001 Space Odyssey" the great Clarke. I would not go that far can be though ... but we must admit that the adventure of Rockhopper and its crew is extremely involved as to have a hard time letting go the book. The pleasure (the foot) that I could take this throughout human history as metaphysical makes me hope of one day reach the big screen, with Ridley Scott at the helm, for sure a "cardboard". A very great work carefree, find its place in your library next to Clarke, K. Dick, Asimov, Aldiss ... My first novel of Alastair Reynolds and certainly not the last!
